MAME INVADERS * COMPLETE * -- Reborn yet again.
« on: August 23, 2007, 11:46:45 am »
Greeting Everyone!

Well I've been working on my machine for years, adding, tweaking, altering....but this is perhaps one of the biggest changes I've made to my machine to date.

For those of you who know me, I originally set up my machine to accept an X Arcade Solo as the main controller. The rationale behind this was the fact that I've created a series of "modules" that I can drop into the panel as literal plug/play controllers.

So for example, if I want it to be a dual joy machine, I pop in that module. Star Wars?-- pop that one in. If you're curious, here's a link to my modules post---
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=53050.0

If you want to see my machine over the years check out these links--

Any hoo....despite the fact that I personally think my module idea is absolutely the shiznet....I've been razzed over the years because the machine does not have a "proper" panel.

Well....today, I officially announce that I have created perhaps Mame Invaders greatest module yet---

"A TRUE 2 PLAYER FULL PANEL!"

I picked up an old Star Gate panel here on the board from "asmida" for only $20 bucks shipped (THANK YOU BY THE WAY FOR THAT!). It had been drilled/prepped for a Street Fighter configuration and I figured this is great!...I'll just wire it up and boom, 2 player panel.

Unfortunately, once I peeled off the SF cover I saw a painful mishmash of holes, wood putty and in general misaligned button holes.

sigh.

It took me a while but I ultimately filled the holes, sanded it down...and the rest is evident from the photos how I finished it off.

I am thrilled at the outcome and it looks brand new.

The best part?....with just 5 bolts, I can easily take it off and put back my module panel, making this extremely  easy to swap out my modules and/or 2 player panel.

SWEET!

Out of curiousity, how wide is that Street Fighter CP, and how do your hands fare with hitting the sides of the cab with the player 1 stick?  I've got a 23" midway cab which I'm considering doing this too but am worried about the vertical walls.

Thanks.

it's a standard 24" wide layout.

Admittedly, player one is a little tight...but player 2 is fine.

Overall, it's no biggie...there's still plenty of room for crazy gameplay.....but you do occassionally brush against the side of the inside "wall".....

Great looking 2 player.   Looks like it is the actual panel and not a changeable unit.   Shows how good your integration is.

Congrats! I love the new panel. The module's were definitely neat, but I am just not a fan of panels that don't look like real arcade CP's.

that looks awesome!  Nice work.

It really (IMHO) makes the machine look a million times better, though I admit I like the flexibility in gameplay your modules give you.

...thanks everyone. I'm glad there are enough "old timers" who remember what she looked like back when she was "Mitch's Coney Island!".......

The new panel is super cool....and now looking at those photos of the solo....it looks kinda' odd......but at least I can still put in my modules.

You gotta' love this hobby!
