Ordered the bits.  May be able to use them when I do the kitchen.

EDIT:  got email from Holbren that they ran out of the set I ordered.  They offered two alternatives or a refund.  I picked a more traditional set.  Good service.

I had to call the orange county woodcraft to find out what was up. According to the salesman I spoke to it's because of a repackaging issue. Apparently there has to be a warning on the box regarding cancer. I'm not sure what the warning says but the salesman said that it can cause cancer if you ingest 200 or more bushings. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

So I guess the moral of the story is to not eat brass bushings, tempting as it may be.

BTW, they had about 8 in stock at the orange county store if you're near there. If not, call the woodcrafts store closest to you and see if they have em in.

Don't worry, be happy: the sawboard actually works better! The nice thing about the sawboard is that the edge of the board indicates exactly where the saw blade will cut. With a guide rail, there's too much math involved since you have to subtract the distance from the edge of the saw's base to the blade when deciding where to place the rail. Do the math wrong, or forget, and you ruin some expensive lumber pretty quickly. DAMHIKT.

I'm looking to buy my first router.  I've never used one before but it'll help me build my cabinets, and maybe some other small projects, but nothing major.

I'm looking at this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200162156977&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:US:1123

Would this be a good beginner router?

Thanks!

This may already be posted somewhere, but Freud is blowing out some of their FTE2200E Routers...

Hartville Tool ($125)

Amazon Has them through Peachtree Woodworking($119.99)

It's usually ~$210. That's a lot of router for $120.

Probably not... it didn't have many details, but it looks like it would only handle a 1/4 inch bit, and it's only 1.5 HP. A router is INCREDILY versitile with the right accessories so if you'll be doing more than one project you'll find many many uses for it. With that in mind, the ability to use 1/2" bits, variable speed and some decent power will help.

All that being said, if you get into woodworking, you won't have "wasted" money on any router you buy. I have an old Crapsman 1/4", single speed fixed base router that I still use to trim edgebanding with. I have it permenantly mounted in a jig just for doing that. If I found another at a yardsale cheap I'd buy it too... LOL. (Set it up for dovetails and lock in the settings and never touch it so it would always be ready to go.)

These bits, with a 135-degree split-point tip, are really designed for drilling in hard metals (like stainless steel) more so than wood. That isn't to say that they won't work in wood, just that they're a bit more than you really need.

I have the first set of drill bits and can recommend them.  They're handy to have around and the case, IMO, is pretty nice.  Actually, I just noticed one of the reviews on Amazon is from me.  However, if you don't need them now and you're patient, you can get them cheaper.  I checked my order history and picked them up for $26 last spring.

GREAT Deal on a Ridgid TS3650 10" Table Saw.

I don't know if this deal is available everywhere, but I just got back from Home Depot with a Ridgid TS3650 Cast Iron 10" Table Saw for $375.

My local Home Depot (Watchung, NJ) has an instant savings of $75 off the list price  (I had to bring the sign over to the service counter, so if anyone is jumping on this deal this weekend at that particular store, you may have to ask about it).  Then, Home Depot is offering a deal where if you sign up for a HD store credit card, you get $100 off plus no interest and no payments for 6 months.

End result: $550 Table Saw for $375.

I got a deal at my local Lowes where they had the 1/16" slot cutter blade for a router on clearance fro just over $3.  Its Bosch bit so it should good quality.  This is the bit required to do 1/2" and maybe 5/8" T-Molding.  since my T-molding is 1/2" works great for me.  Hope you guys find it at your local one.

Lots of Amazon deals on cordless screwdrivers today.  I just happened to be looking for one.

Especially the Hitachi DB3DL 3.6-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless - it's $100 off of ~$150 regular price.

EDIT:  hrm, that Hitachi seems to average around $75 elsewhere.  Still a good price, but that original price is misleading.

FWIW, after trying a bunch of cordless screwdrivers, and returning them all because they were junk, I finally broke down at bought a Bosch PS20. Damn, that's a nice tool! The lithium ion battery means it'll hold a charge nearly forever if it sits unused for a long period of time. 10.8V gives it enough power to sink a decent sized screw or bolt, but the superb clutch means that you can trust it with even the tiniest fastener. Good stuff! Wish I'd bought one sooner...

Home Depot is having a 17% off DeWalt and 20% off Rigid power tools sale until 3/31:

Race for Savings

The TS3650 table saw appears to be part of the deal.  At my local HD, they dropped the price on it from $549.00 to $467.00.  It had the 20% off sticker on the display as well.  Obviously, $467 is not 20% off of $550, so I asked someone to check and he said the price would ring up as $467.  I'm going back in today to try to get it for $373.60 since the price marked on the floor is not 20% off, the .00 shows that the price was reduced, and the website image shows that the saw is part of the 20% off sale.

The TS3650 is probably on clearance because they are getting rid of them in order to stock the new model, TS3660.  From what I've read and researched, the TS3660 features mostly cosmetic updates over the TS3650.  They changed the side panels on the legs and a bit on the front panel as well, which might make the legs a bit stiffer.  However, the saw has gotten fairly good reviews for a contractor saw to the point that it's very close to being more like a hybrid with the exception of the exposed rear motor.

I'm sold on the Herc-U-Lift system because I currently have a VERY small space to work in and I hate moving my BT3000 around when I need to use it.  The other option is move to a new house, but that's a little more expensive than $373  Smiley

EDIT: Darn, I just found this:
Race for Savings flyer

It looks like the sale is UP TO 20% off, not necessarily a full 20%, and $467 is the price (15% off).  That sucks knowing that there's a new model coming.  I might have to call around and see if anyone locally has the 3660 in stock yet and try to get it for the $467 price.  I have to go to HD for a separate project later today anyhow, so I'm going to check out how they have the price labeled on the other sale items to see if I can make a case for an additional 20%.

EDIT 2: And, just to add more to a post that probably nobody but me cares about, I called around and some of the HDs in my area have the new TS3660 available and it's apparently at the sale price of $467 as well.  I think I might have a new saw real soon... anyone want a slightly used BT3000 with a few accessories? Smiley

EDIT 3: And the saga comes to an end... I just have to get the 325 lb. box out of the back of my truck and begin the multi-hour assembly.  I decided it was meant to be when I got back in my truck at HD and I had an email waiting on my phone from someone looking to buy my old saw.
