movies make MaLa slow. Why? and can it be fixed?
« on: September 25, 2006, 07:27:27 pm »
I want to use the videos instead of screenshots in Mala.  I have a 3Ghz machine with 1Gig of RAM and I can hardly scroll through the gamelist with videos enabled.

Things to note:

I have tried; disable video sound, Picture "Fast, Low" quality and display delay options to speed up the FE and game scrolling.

Is there something else I should try?

It is currently so slow that it is unusable.  Is there a way to use screenshots for the layout but show videos in a "Info Window" by pressing alt?  So it only has to load the video if I open the "info" window for a particular game?

That should work fine. My cab has half the mem and Proc speed that you have an it works great.

Have you tried changing the 'exceptions'  See attached pic

I noticed this some time ago with the divx codec too. Try to disable all divx watermarking and decoder 'optimizations' in the divx control panel. Or use the xvid codec. Then it should work.

All the mame intro vids that I have produced use the xvid codec - not divx.  Found xvid was quicked and has lots of support.  Install the k-lite codec pack to get alot of the common audio and vid codecs.

I was having the same problem with the movies. I have the xvid codec installed and also had divx installed. I uninstalled divx and it works great now.

how do you install the xvid codec and is that different than the xvid core?

Can someone point me in the direction of the file I need? and how do I install it or do I just plop it in a folder somewhere?

thank you very much

Yeah, I threw that download on my computer, fired up MaLa and it worked beautifully.  I am happy.  Now I just need to find help on a custom skin/layout and I'll be set.

Oh, Swindus, I would like to add a BetaBrite set up to my cab someday.  Anychance that betabrite support might get added in the future?

Or is there already a way to use it now?

GameCreature is making one for me (for a small fee). I like his style. It is not a high priority, I just said it would be nice in time for xmas.
