I just picked up the consoles and I am wondering what some of the killer must have games are. I imagine through ebay I can get a pretty solid collection.
Any suggestions?

I lost my whole Sophmore year of college to Crazy Taxi and Virtua Tennis for the Dreamcast. Crazy Taxi is spectacular with a steering wheel. Virtua Tennis is one of the greatest 4 player games ever, and I freakin hate tennis.
Also good
Powerstone Powerstone 2 Mr. Driller Chu Chu Rocket Dynamite Cop (Very short game, but super fun the first few time through)
I need to check my collection and get back to you with some more.

If you like stealth games, Tenchu for the PS1 is a great game. If you play it right, you will be playing it for hours.
Syphon Filter was also a sleeper hit for the PS1. But avoid Syphon Filter 2 & 3. Not anywhere near as good as the 1st one.
Hard to find the controller...But if you like fishing games, Bass Landing is an excellent fishing game, but it's best with the official Agetec Fishing Controller. Other fishing controllers are crap.
Fear Effect is also a good game, if you like 3rd person shooters

Most of the games for DC were ---smurfin---' awesome. Here's some off the top of my head:
Cannon Spike King of Fighters Dream Match 99 King of Fighters Evolution King of Fighters 2000 King of Fighters 2001 King of Fighters 2002 Marvel vs. Capcom Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Capcom vs. SNK Capcom vs. SNK PRO Capcom vs. SNK 2 Street Fighter 3: Third Strike Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Street Fighter Zero 3 Super Street Fighter 2X Sonic Adventure Sonic Adventure 2 Power Stone Power Stone 2 Garou: Mark of the Wolves Last Blade 2 Guilty Gear X Gigawing 2 Gunbird 2 Soul Calibur Spawn Dead or Alive 2 Super Puzzle Fighter 2X Ikaruga Shenmue Shenmue 2 Jet Grind Radio Zero Gunner 2 MDK2 Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Rayman 2 Skies of Arcadia Grandia 2 Virtua Tennis Virtua Tennis 2 Mr. Driller Chu Chu Rocket Bust-A-Move 4 Seaman Dino Crisis Resident Evil: Code Veronica Sword of Berserk: Guts' Rage Mortal Kombat Gold Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 Project Justice Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram Headhunter Plasma Sword Space Channel 5 Outtrigger Slave Zero
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I suggest trying all of those. Most of those games are heavily addicting. I would have to say out of all my systems (including the PS2 and 360) I play my DC the most. Thanx.

Wow, Hellfromabove, I take it you are a fan of the fighters? It is truly a travesty that I left Jet Grind Radio and Space Channel 5 off of my list. Those games are sweet. Seaman is pretty sweet as well. It is really more of a novelty to show off to your friends. Seaman is pretty funny. I just ended up getting way too impatient, and I set down one day and kept rolling the DC's internal clock forward so he would grow a lot faster.

Yeah, I actually play fighters professionaly. I have a team and I'm the team captain. Next to SNES, DC has to be the best system out there. Yeah, Gen and Saturn were awesome but DC... WOW!!! I was so sad when I heard they were going to stop making it. Thanx. -See Ya!!! P.S.: Where the smurf is my Shenmue 3!!!!!!

Ok, so how exactly does that work? I have seen it a little on tv, but it was always FPS or Starcraft or something like that. Do you just go places and enter tournaments. How many tournaments are there? How often? Just wondering.

It depends, tournaments are thrown randomly here and there but the main big ones in like the East and West coast are announced like 3 moths prior the event. Usually, on weekends, my friends and I get together and we practice multiple games at a time. We either do it at eachothers house or at the local arcade called Family Fun Arcade. This arcarde is known in the fighting game scene for like the best in the US. If you want to learn Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike, this is the place to go. Apart from Japan the guys here are the best. Me and my crew are then like the top in Marvel 2 . We've been practicing our butts off because the world tournament is coming up in Vegas this August. If you want to learn more the best place to learn about competitive fighting is at www.shoryuken.com . That's like the main hangout and match making place for fighting gamers. Thanx. -See Ya!!!

ps1 : metal gear solid r type delta ape escape resident evil 1 syphon filter 1 and 2(AWSOMENESS) and 3 was eh tony hawks pro skater 1 and 2 dino crisis 2 dreamcast - most hellfromabove mentioned and more : resident evil 2 and 3 (MUST MUST MUST) confidentional mission(gun) virtua striker 2 (awsome arcade style soccer) street fighter 3 double impact (first and second version of sf3 together) house of the dead 2 (gun) under defeat (vertical shooter) these are the must have I can think of for now
Syphon Filter was also a sleeper hit for the PS1. But avoid Syphon Filter 2 & 3. Not anywhere near as good as the 1st one.
WHAT ?!?!? 2 is just AS GOOD as 1 if not better. I personally liked 2 better because it was longer(2 cd),better weapons, music, etc. I will agree about 3 though..it was rushed and the "coolness" wasnt there.
Ok, so how exactly does that work? I have seen it a little on tv, but it was always FPS or Starcraft or something like that. Do you just go places and enter tournaments. How many tournaments are there? How often? Just wondering.
tournaments are held randomly at either arcades or console gathering. major tournies like ECC and EVO can have players anywhere from 100-200 per game and there are people coming from all over the country AND from japan, canada to compete. This years evo is supposed to have a grand price of $5k per game and a car I think. there are online tourments through kaillera(online mame) and xbox live too but you dont really win anything other than pride and you get to make fun of everyone you beat I've won various online tourments before. like 5 street fighter tournies on A@H.com(pop up land) and I won random capcom vs snk 2 tourny on shoryuken.com.

One game I keep going back to for the PS One is Final Fantasy VII.....I've already played it every which way possible, but keep going back. As many copies of the game have been released over the years, it shouldn't be much to find one somewhere fairly cheap.

Woah. How has nobody mentioned Castlevania: Symphony of the Night yet? Probably the best PS1 game ever made and certainly the pinnacle of the Castlevanias. I'm including a PS1 emulator in my cab just for that game.

You'd think that, but FF7 is still insanely expensive. Greatest Hits versions go for a bit cheaper, but original versions can fetch $40-70 on ebay, and they are not very easy to find in used game stores. And even though I could technically make a profit on a game I bought almost 10 years ago.... I still won't sell my copy EDIT: here, take a look at this crazinessI wish I had bought every one I could find when it was released... it might be able to put me through college

all are very good games, but everyone is leaving out a fun game, Typing of the Dead. hahaha, i love that game. i remember driving all over the bay area to track down the dreamcast keyboard adapter so i could use my own keyboard. man, if they had that in highschool when i was learning to type, well...i guess i would be more of a geek.

I really like Toy Commander on DreamCast (just played it last night actually). That is a really under appreciated game I think, it would a perfect fit for the new nintendo they are making (holding the wii controller like a toy airplane and stuff would be awsome).

Remember folks, the PSOne is essentially the same hardware as the Sony ZN series of arcade hardware. Plenty of folks struggle to get ZN games running at full speed in MAME. Of course there's ZiNc, but why not just chuck a PSOne in a cabinet? Arcade systems based on Sony Playstation Hardware (Including Capcom ZN and Namco System 11 to mention just 2): http://www.system16.com/base.php#1And just SOME of the games: Battle Arena Toshinden 1, 2 Tekken 1, 2, 3 Soul Edge Point Blank 1, 2, 3, Star Gladiator Rival Schools Street Fighter EX Mr Driller DDR / Bemani Raystorm/Ray Crisis Bloody Roar Xevious 3D etc, etc. Definite must-haves.

I just picked up the consoles and I am wondering what some of the killer must have games are. I imagine through ebay I can get a pretty solid collection.
Any suggestions?
There is truly one game that makes the DC worth owning - FirePro Wrestling D. Now, if you're only into wrestling a little or just like fighing games in general, you'll still get off on this title. However, if you're WAY into wrestling or were back in the "Golden Age" of pro wrestling in the 80's, THIS title will likely be one of your favorite games of all time. It is mine! It comes with tons of premade wrestlers, but you can create your own. And not JUST how they look, but what moves they do and how frequently, how often they'll go for the pin, go outside the ring, climb the corners, etc. Only thing this game is missing is manager interference! There is one major drawback to FirePro D, however. Nearly all of the game is in Japanese. There are many translation pages out there. I used one of them to guide me through when I was learning the game and, in no time, I was making my own wrestlers and setting up tourneys, etc. TREMENDOUS GAME and, like I said, the most compelling reason to own a Dreamcast, hands down.

If you like that sort of thing, Um Jammer Lammy and Vib Ribbon are worthy also. Vib Ribbon is cool because you can use your own music. Give it a whirl with Prodigy, or some other heavy beat music. Heart attack city!

The only dreamcast game I can think of not posted is Mars Matrix.
Im not very good at this, I am more of a Saturn fan than both Dreamcast and PSX put together...

No one has mentioned Legend of Mana for PS1, the game is just beautiful, if not a little odd. It's all 2d, but the backgrounds and sprites are amazing. The gameplay is kinda odd though. It is an RPG, but your HP reset after each battle. Magic is all done through Musical Instruments (which you may forge yourself), you can also forge your own weapons, armor, grow your own fruits, grow your own pet monsters, and build Golems. So yeah, and you build the world too, so it is kinda cool.
I also like Deception 3, Dragonseeds, and Alpha Boost (This is just an arcade shoot em up)
Later, Lotus
