Missile Command - what original buttons?
« on: June 04, 2006, 08:46:41 am »
Hi everybody.

Since our MC cab has been gutted to a generic cab we need to replace the buttons.

I have a souce for different cone buttons but I don't know exactly what buttons we need.

Does anybody have an original MC cab and could make a photo of the panel?
Would be great  :)

I guess we need two low cones (silver) with LED for the start buttons and three highcones (black) without LED for the thre missile bases. Is that correct?

Thanks

No. You need 2 black medium cones for start buttons, with red lightable switches.

For fire buttons, you need 3 medium black cones with black switches (non-lighting).

The aluminum ones were not used on Missile Command.

By medium cones I mean the black ones seen here:

I thought the fire buttons were lighted volcanos as well, and they flashed until you used up all the missiles at that base. . .  could be wrong, though?

Oops, I didn't know that medium cones exist  :o

I found this "Frankenpanel", too and don't worry: I won't install others than cone buttons ;)

I've never heard of that. We could PM Vader88 and ask him. He had an upright. I have the cocktail and it has black non-lit fire buttons.

Yeah, I remember the fire buttons being lit as well - of course I haven't played an original Missile Command for at least 10 years, so the memory could be going...

RayB is correct...... Look in the manual on around page 27 or 30 for Figure 20. (page # depends on your view of it)
http://www.arcadedocs.com/vidmanuals/M/MissileCommand.pdf

62-039   - Player 1 and 2 start - SPDT Momentary Pushbutton Switch with Red Cap and Light Emitting Diode

62-041   - Fire buttons - Black Momentary Pushbutton Switch  (not lit)

033127-01   - ALL buttons - Black Molded Switch Bushing (cone)

Thanks for all the information.

I bought NOS firebuttons without cones from safestuff1 at ebay.com

I will have made some aluminium cones like the ones on the Asteroids Panel (I had no others).

So I will order 4 lighted buttons. They have low cones but it's better than nothing and the price is very reasonable.

bye

There's a Centipede waiting for some "new" start buttons, too ;)

not really....the Centipede is in a bad shape and doesn't work. I had the PCB checked, it's ok, so the failure must be elsewhere.

If I'd only win the lottery I'd have enough time for that  ::) .... and money!
