3 new 29" pentranic monitors @ $150 ea
« on: March 03, 2006, 08:28:38 am »
Hi,

I have 3 brand new standard resolution pentranic 29" monitors. These were the ones on Ebay a while back. They have a composite to rgb convertor installed but that can be easily disconnected if you want to hookup straight to rgb. Alternatively, you could solder to the rgb header on the composite  to rgb board if you wanted to keep the composite input.

I bought 4 on ebay and had them shipped from Montreal to Toronto. I'm currently using one with an arcadevga board from Ultimarc. The combination works fine with the only caveat being that the vertical hold range isn't as tolerant as some other monitors I've used. For example, you can't setup 60Hz and 50Hz resolutions without having to adjust the vertical hold. The tolerance is more like 5Hz instead of 10Hz.

There monitors are available for pickup in Brampton.

These are standard resolution so 15kHz horizontal and 50-60KHz for vertical.

These hookup to the vga output of an ArcadeVga card or if you want you could use Advance Mame and a supported video card. You need a hacked vga cable to interface to the RGB+ground, sync input on the monitor. You can purchase a prehacked cable from Ultimarc if you end up buying a ArcadeVga.

These monitors are in the Greater Toronto Area  that is in Ontario Canada, land of Igloos and Eskimos.

Man, I wish I had a project that needed a 29" monitor ... All my current monitor needs are all 19".

I'll check with the CGCC crew at the auction today and see if anybody has needs for one -- you may want to post this over there as well.

Cheers.

Shipping available to the US?  If so, can this be hooked up with an arcade vga?

They work fine with an Arcade Vga card except for the vertical hold range I mentioned before. It's a bit annoying. I can almost set the vertical hold pot to sync to 53Hz and 60Hz but not quite. One of them wants to roll really slow. I end up using 640x480 interlaced with hardware stretch in order to play vertical games on a horizontal monitor or to play games like Mortal Kombat that have a vertical resolution of 256 or more.

Shipping these things would be cost prohibitive. It would be best to try and find something local since they are pretty damn heavy.
