Released to the BYOAC Community: My BootSkin Skin!
« on: November 30, 2005, 11:11:40 am »
I created a BootSkin Skin for myself but I have decided to release it to the BYOAC community!

For those who dont know what Bootskin is, it allows you to change the boot logo of Windows XP to something more to your tastes.

Here is a screenshot :

You can get the BootSkin Here (extract from the rar and double click if you have bootskin installed)

Let me know what you think

Hey that's cool.

If I have to see Windblows, it'll be nice to at least think that there's SOMETHING redeeming about it :D

Thanks!

I have been playing around with custom boots, with not much luck.
I even got locked out of my PC, but was able to fix that.

I think I will go this route, seems safer.
Will prolly make my own skin too.

Thanks again Hippo!

Thanks for the contribution, I have just added it to my cab!

I wouldn't mind creating my own but the page that Bootskin links to when selecting Help\How to create bootskins (www.joeuser.com/articles.asp?aid=1886 ) is not working properly, I get no pictures.  >:(

Anybody know of any tutorials around that might help?

Here is a tutorial for creating your own.

My personal method was to use Photoshop to create all the images then use windows paint to put it together because of its compatibilty with bitmaps. Everytime  I tried to use a bitmap created by photoshop it wouldn't work.

I did everything in Illustrator and saved as .jpg, then I ran this file through SkinStudio (http://www.stardock.com/products/SkinStudio) and elected to save as a .bmp image.

Made the whole process pretty easy and troublefree.

I tried using SkinStudio but the output for me was pritty poor. Windows Paint seemed to hand multiple colours much better than skinstudio.

Nice boot screen BTW  :)
