VisionPro II connector questions

Everyone,

I've got a Happ Controls VisionPro II flat-screen 27" SVGA monitor that I'm using for my cabinet.

By the looks and colors on the cables of the second connector, I'd bet its where your power plug will go. Black & white are the hot legs.

It's euro style. Black/white/green-yellow or blue/brown/green-yellow for phase(hot)/neutral/ground legs.

But I've never seen such a chassis. I'm just answering by common sense and basic electrical knowledge. Wait for the true experts.

Thanks for the reply.  You could very well be (and most likely are) right, as I'm definitely no electrical whiz or anything even remotely close... LOL.

I'm guessing by the lack of a power switch, then, that this monitor (are all other arcade monitors the same - this is the first one I've ever had any experience with) is powered on simply by plugging it in and powered off by unplugging it?

It's a commercial arcade monitor. It is powered on and off by the game cabinet power switch.

Oh, OK  - I see.  Well, I'm not sure what pin on which connector would serve as the relay/switch connection, so it looks like I'm either going to have to talk to Happ or hope that someone else w/ the monitor will chime in.  Thanks!

A monitor gets it's power from the isolation transformer in the game. That transformer and all other AC power in the cabinet is switched on-off from the cabinet power switch and safety interlock switches (if present).

I'm not sure if it will apply in my case, though, as this is a MAME cabinet w/ a PC and not an authentic dedicated cab.  I plan on switching everything on w/ a BitsLimited Smartstrip, hence the question about just plugging/unplugging the monitor (the equivalent to what the SmartStrip would do from what I understand).

Would I still need the switch for the monitor in this scenario?

OK - just talked with a monitor technical support rep from Happs and he said that the first connector is used for switching between VGA/CGA inputs and for interfacing with other dedicated PCB's that may use a JAMMA connector or their own connector, so from the signal standpoint, the VGA DB15 is all that is required.

As far as the power is concerned, it looks like you nailed it Ken - the monitor is powered on at all times electricity flows to it meaning that there is no power switch provisions on the monitor itself, so it's up to me to provide a switch/relay for it.

Ken, the VP II supposedly doesn't need an Isolation trans. Mine doesn't. (Mine is CGA though).

Agreed.  The tech I spoke to at Happ confirmed the same thing to me - the Vision Pro II series do not require seperate isolation transformers - just switched power.
