Southern California possible meet?
« on: July 28, 2005, 06:44:01 pm »
I am in the Orange County area. Just wanting to see if some are in LA, OC or SD. If so are there any meets over here.  I would like to go to the next one. ;D

I may be the guy but I am also the guy that procrastinates. If there are alot of responses to this thread we might make it happen.  Hell if it is just a couple it is cool too.  ;D

Reagan Years!! I am within walking distance from it. I will be posting when it opens up again. There is a cool bar right next too it and a fudruckers hamburger joint there too. That would be a cool place to meet up. Even more cool because it is by me ;)

Summer school ends for me in two weeks, and I don't start UCI until Jan., so I'm pretty flexible.  Post a sticky thread on top of this Forum if/when you want to coordinate a meet....Reagan Years, if it ever re-opens, is gonna rock!  I've been trying to get a job there workin' on the games, and the attached Bar/concert venue(The SlideBar) is pretty rad too.  Lee, one of the game guys, let me take a peek in the back, and there's gonna be at least two cocktail cabs and a cabaret in the main dining/bar area.

Reagan Years is still open?  I thought that it closed down 1-2 years ago.  Or at least that's what someone on this board told me about that long ago.  I haven't been there in like 4 years.

Reagan years was open until about 3 weeks ago...It'll re-open when the slidebar http://www.slidebarcafe.com opens....I think it's a money issue...No re-model should take as long as they've been working on that restaurant.

Still here and still watching the thread.  If not Reagan years, where else does everyone think would be a good place.  Rohan Suggested Camalot or Dave and Busters. Should we just wait till it's open again?

I don't know what camelot is, but dave and busters would certainly be a great place for it.  Is camelot the same kind of thing?

Camelot is almost just like Golf n Stuff on the Karate Kid movie. Roller rink, miniature golf, batting cages and best of all video games. It is off the 91 freeway next to Fry's Electronics :) Big Place. Dave and Busters is cool with me too because they have beer ;)

Throw in a Garden Grove person ( You know...the one right next to Anaheim and Orange that always gets overlooked? )

I might be up for doing something if there would actually be a decent turn out.

any place in LA?  i know there's probably something in long beach.  West LA has the sherman oaks castle park, but the minigolf turf sucks.  the classic arcade selection isn't that great, either; mostly '90s games.  the batting cage is ok with your own bat.

i know of another arcade in Glendale that has like 20 old-school games from the '80s, but that's about it.

Well it looks like this died..

but if you guys are still thinking of meeting I've heard of a barcade that used to be held in somebodies house.  I think they had to change locations (issues with permits and stuff).  Just a thought.

I'm in Anaheim. I have been to one of the meetups. Got invited by a friend. It was a really great time. Got to play some beautifully restored machines. That is how we ended up getting a Joust. My wife and a friend of ours played the machine at the party for like and hour. As we are driving home, she looks at me and tells me that Joust WILL BE the next machine I buy. I will keep my ears open to the next party and let you know.

I go out to LA / Hollywood pretty much every other weekend for Amoeba Records.  It's the last of it's kind!!

R.I.P. Tower Records, Virgin, Sam Goody, Wherehouse Music, soon all of Borders..  The closest thing to that and is near me would be F.Y.E. and Second Spin..  but I don't see those places lasting much longer plus they hardly ever have the cds or records I'm looking for..  Amoeba always does though.  Man I don't know what I would do if Amoeba went under........

I hate buying cd's online.  It's always a gamble..  sometimes you'll pay online then get a email couple days later stating their out of stock and refund, it gets lost in the mail, the cd comes and the case or cd itself is cracked, they ship you the wrong album, you buy the cd but it takes weeks to ship or even get a response from the seller..  I'd choose driving to the music store over buying music online any day.

My friend juan has a party every so often at his warehouse/ arcade about once a month.
He charges about 5 bucks to cover some of the electricity costs etc etc
Nothing but classic so don't expect fighters or shooter at his place.

Seach for the Last arcade on the planet on face book.

He has game coming up on this Friday witch is tomorrow.

His ware house is in Santa ana  major cross streets are between edinger and grand Ave.

1400 East. Saint Andrew St. Unit E

Santa Ana 92705

near Edinger off 55 fwy and Grand Street

No drinking and No smoking around the machine. Trust me they break down fast enough without any more help. Laughs.

I was at Chapman University Saturday night working on a movie and had some time afterward to finally stop by the warehouse arcade that was serendipitously going on while I was randomly in OC that night. It was great. About 45 working games. Some are works in progress, some are straight out dead, but the vast majority are in very good shape. I snapped some pics but they are terrible. I was in a hurry to play some games. Definitly going back next month with a few friends.
