betson multisync caution
« on: May 13, 2005, 07:56:31 am »
For the past few days ive been deciding if i wanted a betson imperial or a wells gardner d9200... i live near a betson distro center that carries bothe monitors, the betson is about 100 dollars cheaper there... so i called to arrange a pickup of a betson, they didnt have any instock only d9200s so i placed an order... the next day i get a call from a betson rep who seemingly was trying to talk me out of the betson and trying to get me to buy the wells.. saying how much better a brand it is and that comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges.. i said i still wanted the betson and she said "ok i dont want to talk you out of something you want".. this alarmed me so i started doing more reasearch and read the threads on this site about the problems people have been having with the betson... so i called betson back and told them to cancel my order and changed it to a d9200.... i was speaking with a different rep and asked him if they really were trying to talk me out of getting the betson and he admitted they were...he said they were trying to do it in a diplomatic way as that monitor is their product... he said they have had many issues with the monitor..thats why they ordered lots of WGs d9200 to have on hand and didnt stock the betson...he told me bluntly he would not buy the betson monitor... just thought id share this with everyone who might be interested in this monitor

The main flaw with the Betson is bad geometry at 15khz.  I attribute it to low quality standards.  I believe they made this tradeoff to make the higher resolutions more appealing.  31khz-38khz seems fine to me.

It is interesting to hear that advice from the actual distributor.  The monitor is really made by Kortek (I forget what the relationship is with Betson).

Greetings, I just wanted to throw my two cents in. I did purchase the Betson roughly 3 weeks ago. Out of those 3 weeks, its worked only about 1week. First chasisis, the one that came brand new with the monitor, died within 1 week. The replacement chassis died within 3 days. That's enough for me. I'm taking it back Thursday for a D9200. It's a shame because it's great when it's working but fear the issues I'll have when the warranty is up. I can't recomend it.
