Interviewing R. Belmont, ask your questions inside
« on: April 28, 2005, 11:49:33 am »
I'm going to do what is hopefully a series of interviews of people who help contribute to MAME for Retroblast.com.  After I get through with some of the developers I plan to move on to people who help contribute to the MAME community like our very own Saint, RandyT, Andy Warne, etc. (hint, hint) To give the interview a good variety, I thought I'd do it somewhat of a slashdot style and have users of BYOAC submit their questions.

First up is MAME developer R. Belmont.  To see some of his other projects and info on Mr. Belmont I point you to Zinc/M1 and Blog.

So please if you have any questions for Mr. Belmont send me a PM or post below.  I plan to go through the posts and submit a list of questions Sunday Morning, so have your questions in by then.

Yep...

Ask him HIS opinion of what MAME has become vs what HIS original vision was... of course, you need to ask him his original vision and what he think s it has become in order to ask him to compare the two and how he feels about it.

Ask him where to download roms! Specifically NeoGeo hacks.

I'd like to know what the devs hold in a higher priority; fixing/updating old games or adding new games to Mame.
It feels like I've been waiting for Asteroids and other Atari vector games to get their cocktail modes fixed since forever; I know that R.Belmont has had a look into it, but it seems to have fallen to the wayside again.

Also, does he feel like all his hard work is appreciated?

What are the mame devs plans on fixing games that were added awhile ago and still aren't working properly?  As there are alot of racing games that don't work and have incomplete graphics.

Are we sure we want to use an interview time to nag them to fix stuff?

Don't worry ChadTower, I plan on moderating this list.  As I mentioned to him, the interview is about him and not about him as a spokesman for MAME.

That being said feel free to ask anything you want, just know that not everything is going  to make the cut.  I've got a good list going and people have had some great suggestions, but thought here is a chance for all BYOACers to have a chance to ask him anything they like.

Few questions for all the developers.

Where do they live? (country is enough)
Where do they work?

Do they speak/meet with other mamedevs?

Do they speak/meet with other mamedevs?

And is there a secret hand-shake?

Also, what piece of Mame code is RB most proud of? And what does it do (in laymans terms).

Another; is he married, and if so what does his wife think of Mame?

What devious plans does he have to knock Haze off the pedestal and take over the project?
What's his favourite colour?
Now in a tasty new flavour.

Thanks to everyone who participated.  I am running the list through mine and will send him the list of questions later today.  Some of the questions were similar, some weren't.

I had totally forgotten to ask him the speed velocity of an unladen sparrow. I had down the speed velocity of a laden sparrow, now that would of been so dumb.  ;)

Be sure to specify that it's an African sparrow (not European) laden with a coconut.
