Betson Imperial Multisync for $400, or Wells Gardner D9200 for $550?

Decisions decisions....

Both of these monitors are availble at my regional Betson location (about a one hour drive each way).   The sales manager at Betson suggested quite strongly that his preference would be the WG D9200, on account of warranty/repair support (if needed) later.  (They have 10 D9200's in stock, and only one Betson Imperial, and he didn't even know it was made by Kortek    )

I really like the specs much better on the Betson, but its probably true that if I need warranty support, or parts in a year or two after the warranty expires, that WG will be much easier to get ahold of...

The Betson (if the specs are accurate) is a much better choice capability wise, particularly for running vertical games.  Though, if you plan on using an ArcadeVGA then it doesn't matter which you pick, as both support 15.75 kHz.  Newer D9200 models also support 800x600. 

As far as quality goes or which is more reliable, you're not likely to find anything but anecdotal proofs.

My understanding is that while they WILL run at 800x600 they are in fact being "overclocked" in some way to do so which in time can cause them to fail... hence some of the reliability issues mentioned from time to time.

Not sure at all about this or what is actually being overclocked in this case. But FWIW may not be a bad idea to stick to the officially supported resolutions.

You don't understand.  The newer D9200's officially support 800x600, meaning you don't have to overclock them to get this resolution.  It's within the supported range.

That's great news. I just spoke with WellsGardner and they confirmed 800x600 is now officially one of the supported resolutions and will be reflected in their new spec sheet (not yet available.)

Was there a board rev where 800x600 is supported?  I have a rev N chassis and I'm curious if that one is supported (purchased a couple of weeks ago).

I purchased mine about 9 months or so ago, and it does 800x600.

According to the tech if it runs at that res without a error message it's supported.

There is no overclocking the monitor.

(But I have taken the precaution of mounting 2 pc cooling fans onto the frame blowing on the neck board, over on the startech forums some ops have reported the transistors on the neck board getting hot enough to fry eggs on)

I've been running mine daily at 800x600 since I've had it with no ill effects.
