Has anyone building this cab tried to hinge the CP?
« on: November 30, 2004, 04:29:03 pm »
Hi, I've just started putting the pieces of the cab together so it's not quite time for the control panel yet - but it looks like it just lifts off to get to the keyboard and then sticks back in place with the velcro.

I was thinking of trying to put hinges at the back of the CP (and maybe a magnetic catch at the front) so I could just lift of the top panel to get to the keyboard.

Anyone try this yet?

If you do that, make shure that the front is secured well. Otherwise I'm guessing that when you move up on a joystick you'd be likley to lift up your cp.

Hmm. Good point. Maybe it would have to be something a little more secure than a magnetic catch.

Plus magnets near video screens cause problems.

I use velcro tabs to keep my CP closed...  seem to work fine, even during some furious 2 player Marvel VS Capcom action.  I used about 10 half-inch dia. tabs.

use the metal clamps like on the NEO-GEO 4 way machines.  They hold the CP's down nice and tight.  Put one on each side of the CP.

You can position them so you can grab them through the  coin door too... no going around the cab and reaching in.

  OR

You could put 2 keylocks on each side of the CP tat will clamp down the CP when in the lock position.

Hinge in the front and flip the CP foward is also an option (that is the way the Neo-Geo cabs are made.  This works out very nicely.

I hinged my CP in the front and it is very sturdy.  You done even notice it until you lift it up.
