old crystal castle machine
« on: May 28, 2004, 09:06:16 pm »
There was this flea market in town that had a small arcade. well when they cleaned up the area and tore down the building they set out a crystal castle well lucky for me i ended up with it. It's pretty beat up and sat out in the weather till i could get someone to open the gate up so i could grab it so I'll have to fix it up a little. when i was going over the wiring it all looks fine but there's one blown fuse so tomarrow i'm off to get a fuse for it and plug it in to see if it works. LET"S HOPE SO. So now I'm adding restoring this Crystal Castle machine to my list of arcade projects.

I love to hear stories like this, I hope I get lucky like that one day.

If you just NOTICED the crack, then it is likely on the neckboard. Fix it. It should be cake, I have fixed several broken neckboards.

Or, you can buy a neckboard that isn't broken, but frankly, it will be harder to rerun all those wires than it will be to just fix the broken neckboard.

it's about cracked in half...I'll look at it again tomarrow. Thanks. Replacing the neckboard should be cheaper  :)

Is it cracked in half in the middle of the socket, or elsewhere? If it is elsewhere then it is REALLY an easy fix. just grab a soldering iron and bridge all the broken traces so they are making electrical connections again.

I could fix that, but I suggest that you figure out the model of monitor you have, and then post a WTB on rec.games.video.arcade.marketplace for the proper neckboard, don't pay more than $10.

I assume you could deal with the wires without too much help.

And man, seeing the Brady dist, tag makes me think that they must have been huge, as I have seen/owned A LOT of stuff with that tag on it.

At a glance though, it looks like a Matsuhita TM 202G. But CHECK, don't just take my word for it. It could be something else.

I'm getting an operators manual for it...allready in the mail that should help me out there...the only burn in on the monitor is of crystal castles so hopefully it's the original and hopefully the manual is well documented...

The operators manual for the game won't contain any monitor details, as the monitors shipped in the games varied, and often changed mid-run. Monitors have a separate manual.

Send Ken Layton a msg, I'll bet you $1 that he can ID it positively from those pictures.
