Playdium Auction (Edmonton, AB)
« on: May 08, 2004, 01:40:11 am »
Some friends and I were passing through Edmonton, Alberta and spent yesterday evening at Playdium in the West Edmonton Mall. For those who don't know, Playdium is a Canadian arcade chain similar to Dave and Busters.. Lot's of big expensive sim machines and light gun games, very few classics.

Anyways, I was surprised when we went in to find that this was their last week of operation, and that they are auctioning off every single item in the entire place on May 18th. Not sure if anyone is in the area, but I figured I'd let people incase they hadn't heard.

Off the top of my head, I remember a few DDR machines, hiphopmania II, guitar freaks, drum mania, mocap boxing, 2 time crisis II DX, 2 house of the dead II, la machine guns, silent scope II, silent scope EX, about 15 other misc light gunners, a bunch of fighting games, a bunch of skateboard/water ski/jet ski/scooter/etc sims, virtual on, tokyo wars, soccer sims, air hockey, gallop racer, some misc neo geo/classics collections (i only remember seeing one of the namco collections), a ton of racing games. I'm not too big into racing games, so I don't remember many of the titles. The nicest and most expensive item will likely be the 8 player linked indy setup with 50+ inch screens.

There are also some (overpriced) cabs for sale from the website, but no mention of the auction. www.playdium.com

Hey yeah I live in Edmonton and the auction is tommorow!  I'm going to try to win quite a lot of items since they are selling a millions of dollars of stuff.  Even all restaurant, bar, and office items.

Hopefully I'll get a game or two.  :)  Anyone else going??

Well, there are only 3 (2 now) in all of Canada. The closest (now closed) is about 13 hours away from me, and the other 2 are 25 hours in opposite directions. They're also a little expensive to hit up regularly.. My friends and I usually go during 'power play' which is an entire evening for about $25cad.

skylap_com, let us know how the auction goes. I'd be interested in hearing some of the prices.

AHHHHHHH i just came back from the auction.  There were about 6 or 7 people that are opening their own lounges so they bought all the good stuff.  All kitchen stuff, all bar stuff, all sound and video, and of course all bloody arcade machines!!!

Every bid I would put in was outbid immediately.  I ended up getting a couple Kokanee beer taps for around $75.  The stuff was not selling cheap at all.  Overall there was a ton of good stuff, a very small group of people came to bid and only 6 or 7 ended up with everything good.

Another auction ruined by a few big bidders. :( I just wanted one machine and I'd be happy.  They bought absolutely everything.

I was there too!  As a matter of fact, I was bidding against you for those taps (I wanted the Alexander Kieth's ones though and didn't want to pay that much for them)....and yeah, you're right about the guys opening bars and taking everything right off the bat (especially #200) took everything that was up at the beginning...there was a couple he out-bid me for.  But not everyone there was a big bidder...I walked away with a Rampage World Tour with my winning bid of $350...sorry if that's one that you had your eye on!  But I don't think they did the first set of games well at all, the should have auctioned them individually (like they did the second set)...which ones were you specifically there for??
Now tomorrow I get the pleasant task of getting the thing out of there!

Haha yeah I wanted Rampage World Tour as well!  You lucky guy!  hehe.  Yeah #200 was just racking in and he wouldn't even blink at the prices he'd just nod his head.  I'd watch him as I would bid and he wouldn't even care that I'd be bidding he'd just outbid me on everything.

Do you know how much the stools went for?  I saw too many people looking at them so I just left before they went up.  They were taking soooo long for everything.

I've been away for a bit, I just wanted to throw in a "I was There Too!!"

I was looking to pick up a cab, more for just parts, specifically a 25"-27" monitor but into the $350's was a bit steep for me.

I did pick up one lot, Can't remember the number, ti was "Audio Cables" for $25.

Thought someone would have looked at it other than me and seen there were a ton of TosLink Audio cables in it, ~10 12', a 25' one and a 50' one. as well as some other stuff. All I was really after was the 50' cable.

Is the $350 range normal for a cab around here? Do you guys know of any other auctions /swaps ocally that include games?

(Still searching for a monitor, or parts for a monitor)

I didn't go because I was after pinball machines, but they didn't include them in the auction.

If you are looking for a cabinet in the Edmonton area, keep checking the bargain finder, every once in a while there is a cheap game listed there.  Of course most are WAY over priced, but sometimes you'll find a $150 working game listed.

I don't want to threadjack, and this should be a message all in its own... I've got the cab, designed the CP, have everything just about finished (will post the site when its done) except I have a duff monitor. I'm looking for a WG series K7000 monitor board. More specifically a UPC1397C (IC1) from one. I think I'm going to have to order one from www.therealbobroberts.com along with a trackball later this week, or next, just wanted to see if a local Mame'r had a dead board about.

/end threadjack

Hey since you guys are all in Edmonton (I'm assuming) do you have any arcade/gameroom/bar stuff to sell?  I'm looking to fill my basement.  :)

I've got a couple sets of Fountain Pop dispensers I was just about to throw up on e-bay. I'm building a similar set into my new bar. one set is programmable, small/med/large programmable, the other is a standard lever dispenser. Let me know if your interested.

Hey those look great!  I'd love to set something up like that but I wouldn't know the first thing about it.  How much are you asking for the bottom one?  I dont need anything fancy.

I'm also looking for bar stools like crazy.

Thanks,
Mark
