Any fix for new mame versions?

I have .138 and the gamelist.xml fix (replace  "machine" with "game") does not do the trick. Any one get it going??

 I know Maximus is old and out dated  but I'm stuck with older hardware running windows XP because i have a ultimarc ArcadeVGA that there's no new drivers for...
