Ultrastik 360 Flight Stick for Tron, Zaxxon, Gorf
« on: May 22, 2019, 11:19:17 pm »
Hello,
Anyone have any feedback on how Andy's new Flight Stick version of the U360 is working with Tron, Zaxxon, Gorf and those types of games.. Just dug out my Happ Heavy Duty Flight Stick and made a panel with it but sadly it is not working well at all.. the tron light cycles are unplayable, wants to constantly do jaggies at a diagonal instead of up, left or right.. Not a big deal, just ordered a SpinTrak and RGB Lighting for my UTrak today, wondering if I should just pull the trigger on the U360 Flight Stick too.

- Thanks

I would. Happ flight stick is a pain all round.

If you are going to buy the U360, marry it with the Happ Heavy Duty and get the best of both worlds:

Look at you diggin' in the BYOAC crates for a 10+ year old tutorial. Brings a tear to my eye, you're making us all proud.

I saw that, believe me.. not sure that is something I care to undertake.. I mean, I have the parts ( minus the repo Tron handle ).. Still does not answer the original question.. Even with the setup in the tutorial, anyone have any feedback on how a U360 with a trigger ( dont care how it gets the trigger ) plays Tron.  Andy shipped some parts out to me earlier this week, a spinner and RGB kit for my Utrak, can not wait to mess around with them in my new, under construction control panel. Just trying to find a fun way to play Tron. Just dug a littler deeper into the original thread, I see some of the maps used, they make sense. I see no reason to not get the U360 FS now.. I mean, worst case scenario I use the parts to make this, so what the heck.. Andy is about to make a little more $$$.

Thanks,

Zeosstud

Well Tron and Zaxxon blow goats. And Gorf and Satan's Hollow don't really need flight sticks. >:D

Thanks,

Zeosstud

The only difference would be the flight stick grip and the resistance from either the spring(in the case of the U360)or the grommet in the flight stick.  The mapping system is the same for the U360 whether you use the Happ or the U360 stick.  You should really consider this option, I have done it on mine and it works really well.

You mean you blow them goats in your ability to play those games. I think I'll fire up Zaxxon......

@Zeosstud: as mentioned, the Tron stick used a special 4-way grommet that allowed pushing in to the diagonals. A barely passable functionality if one knows about it. We didn't back then and sucked about as bad because of it. The standard Happ flight stick is just tiring, as the grommet is thick. U360 is your option for decent play, and flexibility.

I will find out soon, stick is ordered and on the way. Got a nice hole already drilled for it.. Updating my trackball cabinet from just a trackball and 5 buttons to include a U360,  spinner, illuminated trackball and the aforementioned U360 flight stick. Learned something new doing this, you can light up a trackball using the expansion connections on your IPAC2..

Learned a few things about the U360 FS

1. If you are installing it in MDF you WILL have to route out a little under 1/4" on the underside so when you install it there is enough room for it to move freely.
2. Fishing the trigger buttons through the washer freaking sucks, nerve racking, just know your gonna RIP out a solder joint.
3. It does make Tron a lot more fun.. It may not be perfect, but it is the best solution I have come up with so far.

For simultaneous 2 player, I was thinking about buying two sets of dual Ultrastrik 360 Flight Sticks for MAME games that require dual analog sticks w/trigger buttons.  Is that a good solution?  Thanks...
