Game is quite hard and the voice is nightmare fuel :o
Soft reset in MAME doesn't work correctly so be careful!

On a completely unrelated note, I finally got grand master rank in TGM1!

71,900

I really love this one, but it gets so fast and ridiculous quickly.  Your best chance after level 5 is just finding a secure corner and spamming fire back and forth while watching the radar.  I got lucky in this game and got the Wizard twice.

yep the speed increases rapidly --- It's a much better game when playing 2 player coop - though it's difficult to not wind up shooting at each other ! >:D ( Of course that's probably what the manufacturer wanted since it meant more quarters pumped in  :laugh2:

19k, but I'm not going to tell you guys how many games it took to achieve that score...

Top post updated with current standings. WakiMiko & Yamatetsu, you guys have to play more. You're tied for first. Cut it out.

49,500 here (but I'm still trying!)

This game is interesting in that there's definately a "pattern" aspect to it in terms of the best tactics for each level, but even if you execute that aspect perfectly, a lot comes out to luck. For example, where the Worluck or Wizard appears in the maze vs. your position can have a large impact on your ability to shoot them before they escape or kill you.

It's amazing how a seemingly perfect game can go to hell almost instantly after the first few levels. Very frustrating but definately has that "just one more play..." aspect to it that keeps me coming back!   ;D

I'm on the board for the first time ever but far from first. This is a fun game for 1980.  Reminds me of that show brain games which was on hbo. There was an aliens game in an episode.

I only have an 8-way joystick. I hope that is okay. I doubt this makes me any better.  I want to play along.

27k cements & solidifies my 6th place awesomeness.

Knightrdrx, welcome. As long as you follow the rules, you're welcome to play as you wish. But please type your score into your post body. It's sometimes difficult to decipher numbers in attached images.

But I have never picked a shmup before ???

I'll make a thread soon with a game I've never played before. And it won't be a shmup :)

What about Son Son?

Don't think you guys have done that one.

Considering it!

Because you are so very good at them. And, of course, because I don't particularly like them  :D

Maybe I'm getting old, the idea of mashing a button hundreds of times per minute over a long period of time does not appeal to me.

There are a lot of shmups with build-in autofire (e.g. everything by Cave, though in some cases it has to be activated in the setup menu). I don't like button mashing either. :)

But don't fret, I picked SonSon!
