Cool, love this game, actually set up my CP with this in mind.  Not that I'm any good though, but it's fun.  I'll have to test out using both buttons and joystick and see which yields higher scores.

My Projects:
MisSpent Youth a Vigolix bartop,  Little Bastard a rotating tablet/display bartop,
Pin-Dog a mini pin-cab on vpforums.org  Star Wars a wedgehead pincab on vpinball.com

Space Zap sounds better than "Kill the Dick ships with your turtle"

Maybe I will score better than the 68 I got in Barrier....   :banghead:

I would have been damn proud to get 68 in Barrier.  That was a freaking hard game.

It gets pretty tough around 100K - didn't lose a base until then and barely made 117,500 tried again a bit later and got 118,250

Love the new cleaner format of these threads now. 90,500. Fun game. I must be missing an overlay or something. How do you get it in color? (And I was does my iPhone always post upside down?)

In the MAME "Video Options" menu select "Color Overlay".   ;D

In Video options I'm using Upright Artwork (screenshots do not include the art) :

As for the upside down photo -- easy fix would be to take the pic with the phone held upside down !! :laugh2:

This is fun, wish I had a leaf spring 4way for it though, although is it cheating playing with a joystick?

Also this was unplayable in 150, I had to boot up 146u5... did something change with this Rom recently?

You may use any control panel setup that you wish.   I will be using a joystick.   The only rule that would stand out would be that you cannot  use auto-fire.

@Popsicle - Can you add that requirement to the rules and scoreboard thread?   Somehow it seemed to have gotten dropped.

It does indeed already say no autofire in the general rules.   ;)

Autofire is strictly forbidden.

Playing with a child on your lap is OK. In fact, it can be beneficial. It works well for me: 132,500 after a few games.

I thought you couldn't have another  person assisting you in a way that changes your score.

If by "assisting", you mean "holding down the fire button & preventing me from firing, requiring me to swat away his hand & then start hammering on the button myself," then yes, I did have assistance. :]

139,000 using the correct controls

Just for fun since I hadn't done it before I remapped my controls to use the joystick instead.  Damn that was awkward, I think mostly because I was used to direction with right hand and fire with left while the joystick was opposite.  got up to 119,000 after a few games but it still just felt wrong.  I do see where you could almost just swirl the joystick around in a circle firing the whole time and get pretty far.

141,000. I thought this was a minor improvement. Well, it is, score-wise, but it rockets me way up the current rankings. I guess this one's a tight race!

Thanks,

I was having trouble configuring my U360 to work with it and just got that figured out tonight.  Believe it or not I Broke 100k tonight on my first try.   But the snapshot didn't save and Space Zap doesn't appear to save high scores.  So no pics and it didn't happen I guess.  Fun game though.

You can use f7/shift-f7 (save state/load state) to save/load the game, provided of course that you have a keyboard for your cab. After that, you can tackle the problem of getting a screenshot  :)

So after an hour of getting between 120-140k I finally made it to 150k, got the extra life and promptly died twice in succession.

I don't think I'm ever gonna get higher than this. Either my eyes or wrist will pack in if I keep trying...

168,000 - Sorry Harvey  ;)

Guess I'm going to have to break out the USB keyboard or fire up the bartop before the end of the week ! -- You guys are making it tough to keep up on my wireless keyboard !! Best I can manage on it is 135,250 due to the speed increase and the lag in the wireless

EDIT : was looking through the tab options and noticed that there is a setting under Game Configuration to change the monitor from B&W to Color so that the center base is in color like the game screenshots posted in the competition info - which looks a bit better (guess it defaults to B&W) As shown in screen attached below.
