Looks awesome!

However, When I open it in Ill 10, I get a weird clipping path oddity. It creates a white box near the right part of the bug head. I am going to DL the eps and check it out too.

Just tried in Illustrator 8, 9 and 10 on both the PC and the Mac. Can someone else try too?

Oh poop! My bad. I flattened the transperency and sometimes it makes a white box around objects. I forgot to check it before I uploaded it. Does anybody know a way of replacing those files on the server?

Ahh..much better! I had trouble with the AI (a PDF error ??) The EPS opens fine.

Thank you for the art. It is an awesome job.

not for the moment. but mametrix hhas exposed some propositions for the future vector-library, and this will be one of them

the only way for the momment is to contact mametrix.

Zorg,

I want to thank you for the Galaga Side art.

I did not use it as is, because I am not doing a Galaga replica.  I did use parts of it to create a Galag themed marquee for the cab I have been building.

The only problem I had was the lack of layers and/or groups.  I spent a bunch of time trying to grouping related parts of the sideart so that I could easily seperate out the parts I wanted. Mainly the space ship.

I'll be posting pictures as soon as the marquee comes back from Kinko's.

Real Life.  Still a poor substitute for video games!

First of all many thanks for vectorizing the Galaga sideart

Unfortunately, I still can't seem to get a good download of these files. When I download from Mametrix there's a big white rectangle behind the bug's right eye. When I download from edeveaud.free.fr I cannot open the AI or EPS file in CorelDraw 8. I can open the AI version in Adobe Acrobat 6, but then there is a thin white rectangle again behind the right eye. Adobe Paintshop can open it properly, but then it's no longer vector art ;)

Thing is, I want to see if I can fix some problems with the sideart and create a kickplate image if that's done. I have been checking cabinet pictures and I noticed that the high res base image used for vectorizing is not entirely correct. It's slightly warped and the colors are not always accurate.

The warping is most noticable in the bottom region. You should be able to draw a straight line along the spikes on each side of the sideart (now the bottom part is much narrower). The image seems to need some rotation and perspective correction.

The colors are wrong in:
- the Galaga logo's (these should have the same color as the ribbon)
- a couple of blue polygons, which should be purple (in the bottom logo area and around the bug)
- the ribbon which should have dark green patches like on the Marquee

I have set up page with a collection of images to show what I mean: http://arcade.laweb.nl/sideart/

Also, I'm wondering if the Marquee and ribbon of the sideart and control panel shouldn't all have the same color. I can't really get a good picture to check this since mostly the marquee is lit and that throws marquee the color off. Does anyone know this from seeing a cabinet or something?

I could send you my edited version of the file.  I went through and did a lot of grouping so that various components (Ship, logo, backgrond, ribbon) can be seperated.

yea it's slightly warped and yes i guess the color are also quite wrong. that's the problem for repro and son on. it depends on the substrat you are using for the repro.

Zorg,

If you help me get the file opened I can fix it for you. I'm not sure what the problem is (CorelDRAW just says there is a problem reading the file), but I can read the AI file that's on Mametrix. Are there different AI formats?

About the colors, I'm not complaining about the overall colors being wrong. Just that some colors in the picture should be swapped for others (i.e. some parts use the blue color instead of the supposed purple color and I think the logo should use the same colors as the ribbon and now it doesn't)

Maybe I can read Ruud's version. I sent a PM

I just emailed my version to Patrick.

It does open in Illustrator 10.

All I did was to group and rename a lot of the objects.

There is some sort of odd square section behind the upper right part of the ship that contains part of the red and blue spikes, and part of the white haze that surronds the ship.  It kind of looks like a section was clipped out and then put back in.

I can't open that one in CorelDraw either. I guess that's my punishment for using old software  :P   I probably better get something new.

Actually, I also checked the marquee and that image also seems a bit warped. To be honest it's only visible if you swap the pictuire quickly with another image. I wonder what "they" did to these bitmaps though.
