Sanwa Joystick Lube - Dow Molycoat 44 Medium Grease or ________________?

So I took apart my joysticks to make jigs, and I want to re-lube them before I get to using them a lot.  Lizard lick sells Dow Molycoat 44 Joystick Grease, but a tube of it is 1)not cheap and 2)way more than I need.

Is there a more readily available alternative that can be found at Lowe's or Home Depot?

Check out some stuff called "Super Lube".  It's a thick silicone lube, so it stays put.  Just a thin coat will do the trick.

Not sure if they have it at Lowes or HD, but if you have a Harbor Freight nearby, they should carry it.

Is this really that necessary if you are just opening it to trace for a jig?  Especially if the joystick is new.

Can't hurt, so long as you don't overdo it.  A little preventative maintenance is a good thing, especially if you expect them to see heavy use.  I use the SuperLube on OMNI2's when I build them, and they move really nicely afterward.  I expect that it will significantly reduce wear in the otherwise dry socket.  Joysticks of similar design should also benefit from doing this.

Definitely make sure you get all of that out before applying any kind of heavy lube.  Otherwise, it will mix in and end up being some nasty gunk that will eventually cause you problems.

As a guy who has never been accused of being AR in his life, I have been ridiculous about making sure the sticks were completely clean.  That is why I am having to purchase the lube.  I did find a place on ebay to purchase a smaller amount of the Dow lube, but I will definitely be going to check out that super lube that you mentioned.

That would be the stuff!  The rave reviews are spot on.  I use it for just about everything as well.
