Cram's arcades PGA Golf Tour cab and Virtua Fighter 2 mame'd
« on: January 24, 2012, 12:50:38 am »
So here are my two mame'd out arcade cabs.  I will post my Daytona twin cabs when they are finished.  So here we go.  Both cabs are running hyperspin front end set to run when computer turns on and windows loads.  Exit is disabled out of hyperspin menu.  These cabs are really fool proof.

PGA Golf Tour Team Edition cab.  I bought this arcade with the only issue being the video card fried for $200.  I knew that this would be perfect for a mame cab with a trackball.  Well after moving it back to the house, the monitor crapped out on me.  The monitor was replaced with a panasonic 27" TV with s-video to the PC.  TV is auto powered when plugged in and remembers to stay in svideo mode.  Bought the TV on craigslist for $10 and just decased it and screwed it in.  Picture is amazing and is very bright and clear.  I was not able to deal with the hassle of an arcade monitor, not worth it guys.  Way better to go the svideo route with a television.  It is way cheaper and I can't notice much of a difference from my 15khz arcade monitor.  I drilled holes and put a 6 person button layout.  The black button is escape and the orange is the left mouse click for tiger woods.  New happs buttons and trackball are wired through a mini-pac.  1gb video card output to s-video.  New red t-molding around everything.

At first, I had beat em up games, blitz, etc on here so I ordered a custom marquee for my favorite games.  I found that people continued to press the wrong buttons on the games that only required to first 2 or 3 so I decided that this cab would only have the 6 button fighting games and golf.  The street fighters and Capcom games.  I will be ordering another custom marquee with my top 6 favorite fighter games.  I dont like arcades with 20 million games on them, I only wanted to stick with my favorites so there is only around 15 games.  Computer is a dual core, 3gb ram running windows xp.  Sorry about the crappy video and pictures, I aint a photographer.

Next up is my Virtua Fighter 2 cab.  I bought cab for $100 and then sold pcb board on ebay for $100.  Monitor is the original Nanao MS8 monitor.  This is switchable from 25khz to 15khz.  I switched to 15khz.  The only video card I found to work with powerstrip was an ATI X1300.  I am running an ultimarc VGA video aplifier cable from the monitor to the PC.  Windows and all games are very clear and smooth.  New happs buttons are ran by a ultimarc mini-pac with harness.  I drilled two holes in each side of the control panel for the escape buttons.  Works out pretty well.  I decided to keep the original glass marquee.  I also love the glass screen cover with the listed moves out for the characters.  Art work on both sides of the cab are in great shape and full.

This cab is being used for the 3 button only games.  A mixture of Blitz, sega model 2 fighters, and my favorite mame games.  Again, I hate cabs that run 200 million games.  You only need a handful of your favorites otherwise it gets to be too much.  PC is a dual core, 3gb ram, running windows xp with powerstrip.

I welcome any comments or suggestions.  I also am willing to answering any questions that you may have building your arcade cab.

Very nice  :applaud:  I like!!!

I think the pga cab is a slick looking cab.
I agree on not having cabs with 20 million games on them.

The Virtua Fighter 2 is nice with the Nanao monitor, those Nanaos have a nice picture to them.

how did you secure the tv? did you use a shelf? my golden tee cab still has the monitor mounts, I am assuming the mounts need removed.

I took out the 27inch Kortec monitor tube.  I left the frame in there.  Decased a 27inch television and put that it there.  They are both 27inch tubes so you just attach right on the frame.  You want to leave the monitor frame/mount.

Cool. I still think I may go 28" 16:10 LCD. For me, it'll be alot easier to deal with. If I can get a tube for cheap or free I may try it. But around here, tubes go for 50$! The 16:10 LCD will be a bit smaller at 24" in 4:3 mode. Also I may be using PC games in the cab to.Decisions!

I've got the same cab as the virtua fighter 2, mine was a virtua fighter converted to a blitz, then converted to a mame. :P If I had one thing to say about it, it would be that its one heavy SOB!! Way overbuilt.
