This new forum is for posting about game consoles (X-Box, Dreamcast, etc.), questions and comments about them runing emulators on them (speed, loading, etc.), hacking thier controls, running multiple in a cab simutaniously, and other console related topics.
Rules: The base rules (be kind to others)
No piracy, no "game backups", no links to same, etc. Modding a console for homebrew and MAME goodness is fair game for these forums. Piracy is not.
If at any point modded consoles are shown to be illegal in the United States then such discussions would need to be curtailed (discussing the ethics thereof, or stating that it is possible would be OK, a "how-to" or selling of such items would not.) However, as of this writing I am unaware that modding hardware is illegal.
Trying things out: Console video questions should go here for the time being, instead of Monitor/Video.
For posts about useing consoles at the same time as a PC (ie Dreamcast and I-Pac), I leave up to you, but please do not post in both Main and here for the same question.

Tom/Saint, I'm sure you are aware of this, but it would be nice to put a link to the Consoles msg board at the top of the page with the other "BYOAC Forums".

Thanks, just so happens I'm working on a console project now! I can't seem to get the money together for my Mame cab yet, so I'm using what I got for now. Should be a good learning along the way!

I'd say the same about a good chunk of the people posting in PnR, including myself.

lik-sang.com has a few vga converters plus some other GC goodies. For future reference, Lik-Sang is no longer in business. They have been sued out of existence by none other than SONY

I have one of the official ones, not sure where I got it. i did used to order from Lik-Sang, so it could have come from them (stupid Sony). FYI, it only works with progressive scan games and you can't see the memory card/system screen as that runs in 480i.

I bought a V-Digi VD-Z3 RGB to VGA transcoder at the urging of the Yellow Dog Linux forums and it took some, uh lots, of fiddling with toggle switches and eventually gave a very reliable 720p signal for gaming on an older tube monitor. It gave a somewhat reliable 1080p if you started the system up in 720p and THEN switched to 1080p in settings. It also found displaying pure white bordered screens undisplayable and would cut signal until the white went away. It cost $70 from Ebay and is no longer being sold by VDigi (because it circumvented HDCP, I thinks). It was cost effective then, but I'm not sure if it's cost effective now. If you're looking for HD console displays you need an HDTV tuner or find a sticker or marking somewhere on the display that say HDCP compliant.
