Pretty sure this kind of thing is against the law.

Quote
A sweepstakes is basically a game of chance that awards a prize to a winner or winners selected from a random drawing. However, the addition of the element of consideration -- for example, a required purchase, the payment of a fee, or an expenditure of substantial effort by an entrant in order to enter -- would make the contest a lottery, not a sweepstakes. Except for those that are state-run, lotteries are prohibited by federal law and the laws of all 50 states. Thus, all sweepstakes, including online sweepstakes, must avoid requiring any kind of payment, entry fee or other consideration to enter.

Someone is really bucking for the B/S/T Mod title!   :o

j/k

Good catch though that can help Dave out.  Hey, and Dave, put a location in your titles before someone gets all worked up about it!   :)

Old orders that haven't shipped yet will be adjusted to the sale price, right?

The sale prices only apply to new orders made specifically in response to this ad.  There are no exceptions to this, sorry.

Most get around that law with the option to enter the contest in an alternate way. For example you play the monopoly game at McDonalds by sending a postcard/letter to an address and they'll mail you 2 game pieces per letter/post card as an alternate means of entering/playing.

All you would need to make some sort of drawing "legal" would be to have an alternate way to enter. The Caveat is the odds of winning must be the same as anyone who enters the normal way.

I am not a lawyer nor am I giving legal advice, its just an observation.

If its any consolation, I thought what you were doing was a neat idea.

If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Well it's not exactly like David is offering drugs here right ?
It was a try to make buying stuff even more interesting for our community.

If we're going to be this strict, why was there never anything done about threads about f.i. Jrok's Multi-Williams ?

I think the intention of rule #5 is an another level.

Also, your police posting (IMHO) is against rules #1, 4, 10 and especially 13.

I didn't see any of the moderators here having problems with it ? Saint ?

I'm not sure what the reference here is, but the point is that this is a contest that doesn't conform to American legal standards - eg it's against American law.   Myself personally?  I do not care either way.

Even though it's "small peanuts" compared to other contests, if anything does come from it, who's going to get the short end of the stick?
