How to run 2 steering wheels?.....
« on: April 07, 2003, 01:42:07 am »
How can I run 2 steering wheels at the same time?

Thought that a hacked mouse would use both axis but I can only get x-axis(left&right) to steer. There appears to be no access to the y-axis and game settings don't even list the x-axis of the mouse just my joypad, but the mouse works.

I'm just trying all this out for now.
It's not hooked up in a cab yet and it will be a while before I have the time to do so.
I have a ps/2 mouse hacked and I also have a serial mouse to try out but when I hook the mouse up it's not recongized by w98.

I would rather not buy an optipac or similar right now as I'm in testing (read playing) mode and just want to use the wheels for now.
Would the optics be able to input through a hacked keyboard and give me the same results as using a mouse?

Any info is appreciated!

You need to run analog mame.

Is this just a patch to add to mame?

The split mouse axis is what I'm after!!!!

I run W98SE and DX8.0 so that part should be okay.

Where do I put this and how do I configure it?
Is that what the compile page is for?

I have been just playing the games and haven't gotten into the technical aspects of mame yet so please excuse my ignorance! :P

Mame:Analog+ is a derivative of the official mame that adds some features, mostly related to analog inputs.

The only thing that needs win98 is the multiple mice each-mouse-for-a-different-player feature.  All other features work on all the versions of windows, including splitting the mouse axes.

To use two (360 degree) steering wheels, you can hack it so one steering wheel is the X axis, the other the Y axis on the same mouse, and start mame:Analog+ with "mameanalog -splitmouseaxes gamename" or "splitmouseaxes 1" in the mameanalog.ini file.  You might want to include the -onemouse option, too, because with out this, the above automatically sets mouse 1 X axis to player 1, mouse 1 Y axis to player 2, mouse 2 X axis to player 3, ect; your wheels might be on mouse 2 or 3.  With -singlemouse, mouse X axis goes to player 1, and mouse Y axis goes to player 2.  Or see next PP.

Other way to do the same thing as -splitmouseaxes except manually is the -switchaxes option, press tab in the game, go to "mouse axes", and set the correct axis to the correct player.

Third way is to have each wheel hooked on the X axis on different USB mice, (have WinME/98), and if needed, "-nosinglemouse" (this is default) and  "-switchmice".  In game, press tab goto "mouse controls" and set the correct mouse to the correct player.

If this isn't clear, please ask me for more help.  Good luck! :)

THANKS!!!!! ;D

That's quite a piece of software!

I have two steerable cars now.

Now I just need one more wheel and I can have all three.

Again, thanks!
