Atari 10 in one games!

This might not exactly be aimed for our crowd but it's still a pretty neat concept.

An orignal looking Atari joystick with 10 classic atari games that hooks directly up to your tv! Definitely neat.

If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

I got one of these for Christmas.  They are available through Avon (yes that Avon).  Mine came in a plain box instead of the retail package pictured in the review linked above.

I have not compared every game to the comments in the the review, but I pretty much agree with the sentiments of the reviewer.  There are paddle games included which are just silly with the joystick controller and they botched some of the regular games.

Still, I am happy to have it.  It is relatively inexpensive, and definitely a great idea.  Hopefully they will come up with a better selection and implementation of games in the future.

Dammit, the first thing that I thought was "If I had seen this a month ago, it would've made a GREAT Christmas gift for a couple of people that I know."

I won't say I told you so but I did post this in a thread 3 weeks ago. http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=6;action=display;threadid=3915;start=0

I guess thats the same as saying I told you so, isn't it?  :P

Yeha, this has been out for awhile.  Where do you get one???

I have the activision one that has 10 games they made for the 2600.  The only one I remember playing is pitfall, but still cool.

I work at both Funcoland and Software Etc and we carry those at both stores.  $24.99 is the price.  They sold like hot-cakes during the holidays.

I've heard bad reviews on these devices all around.  to sum up what everyone is saying....

#1 Poor game selection... The games included are either games you've never heard of, or games that are supposed to be played with the paddle or trackball.  There is usually one "real" game with each (pitfall in this case)

#2 Graphical issues....  Many of the games have nasty artifacts floating around the screen towards the edges.

#3 Speed issues......  A few of the games lag, which is ridiculous considering the puny chips used in a 2600.  My free cell phone is more powerful than the 2600.

#4  Pirating games/ ported issues.....  There are several versions of this device made by different companies.  All but one version have illegal or bootleg versions of the games in them.   The "official" one has taken out all of the easter eggs from the games and modified them in other ways.

This isn't necessarily MY opinion of them, but it's nearly everyone's who've reviewed them.  For what they are they are a cute novelty, but they are no way near the quality of gameplay you can get on a real atari or an atari emulator for that matter.  If you have money to burn then buy one to play around with.  Otherwise steer clear unless you've seen one in action first.

When I saw the webpage I though I gotta have one, but as I read the review I was disapointed.

I have Adventure and Yar's Revenge in my cabinet.  I'm running Stella for DOS, recompiled to work with my control panel layout.  I've even got my spinner working as a paddle controller; I had to modify Stella's code to reverse the axis and adjust the speed, though....
