Trolls in the "everything else" forum
« on: November 06, 2004, 09:31:03 am »
I propose that only members who have been on the board for some set period of time and have "x" number of posts be allowed to a) post off topic stuff in the everything else and b) post conga lines or anything else in that section. Say 1 month and 50 posts.

TAPilot and his ilk just take up the site's bandwidth, don't use any of the site's information, and don't provide any arcade-related discussion or other input.

Eagle5469 seems to be more centered on his own self-enrichment through conga lines than enriching the BYOAC community.

FWIW.

I have changed my nickname to "Cakemeister". Please do not PM the Buddabing account because I do not check it anymore.

Please read the wiki!

I am totally in agreement.  I've only posted in the Everything Else sparingly so I don't know the extent of TA Pilot's posts (but I've heard).  Unfortunately, Paige already got a reply from Saint about Eagle5469 that basically said that he knows that he doesn't post anything but Conga Line posts and has no interest in the BYOAC but has let him in anyways.  That's sad cause like you said he's only doing it to get himself freebies.

Grandfather clause - he was polite about everything he posted and attempted to work within the rules, and pre-dated the existance of the conga-line forum. Nontheless, sometime in January the conga line forum will be closed...

I totally understand the situation with Eagle.  And since quite a few members seemed interested in the whole conga line thing it actually made sense.

But with the political posts gone and the conga forum to be gone in a couple of months, it will be nice to see things get back to 'normal'. ;D

Ray-
You've seen the "Get a FREE Ipod" links, right?  Well, It works like any other pyramid scheme.  You sign up for the free Ipod site by accepting a trial offer for some product or service.  That gets you started.  To get the free Ipod, you have to get 3 or 5 or 10 other people to sign up and complete a trial too, all of them saying "Ray sent Me" when they do.  THEN you get your free Ipod.

The idea behind the Conga line is that with a whole boatload of BYOAC people working together, they can all give each other referrals.  Dude 1 signs up, then 10 more people get in line and he gets his prize.  Then the 2nd person in line starts getting referrals from new sign ups.  The problem is, each person can only sign up once, so it sort of falls apart since we have a finite number of users.  Dude 1 only needed 10 people to sign up after him, then dude 2 needs 10 more for 20... and by the time dude #10 gets to the top of the list, he needs 1000 people to have signed up to score.

I fear that a policy like this will result in these guys spamming the rest of the forums instead.

At least with the current setup the crap is kept seperate from the useful posts.

Not it isn't, random spam has gone way up since the conga forum opened.
