  • HulkaMAMEia is runnin' wild!
okay, i know there is a term for this, but i dont know what it is, otherwise i would have searched for it!  i thought it was ghosting, but isnt that related to image quality?   ???  well anyway, for some reason, i have letters on the keyboard that are assigned to more than one input.  like, the right direction on player 3 is K....but so is the second button on player 2.  im guessing this is the problem, but when start to play a game like smash tv, and i am controlling the 3rd player, as soon as i hit the right direction, the game crashes and it goes back to the mamewah screen.  i went into the ipac utility to hopefully change the keys, but it wont let me change them to all individual keys...whats the deal!??!  help!

Are you sure that it's the ipaq and not the Mame game setup (you know you hit Tab when the game is loaded)?

On the Ipac you can set each button to be whatever you want it to be. Note that if you have a newer one, you have to use the WinIpac IPD and note the older software(just figured out that this was my programming problem, thanks Andy) to program the Ipac.

If you were experimenting with mame when you had a regular keyboard hooked up, you may have remapped some of the default keys for the game. All of that would take place in Mame and have nothing to do with the Ipac.

What was the name of the game? I'll check out my version and see what the keys are in Mame.

okay ive messed with the mame tab menu, and finally got my controls back the way i want, except i now cant use my pause and escape buttons.  before they werent working because they were wired to certain inputs on players 3 and 4 where the ipac had not assigned any keys to those inputs...so that was the problem there.  however, now i have them both wired to player 1 sw8, and player 2 sw8...and they were working fine for a while, but now its messed up.  and when i go into mame to set the keys, i press the button and it shows up as the same key press as the directionals on my 3rd and 4th players.  so when i hit "right" on my 3rd player it escapes....because both the right direction and the button i want assigned are both assigned as "v".  so my question is, is all i have to do is to go into the winipac thing and change the value for sw8 for both players?

Okay, if I understand correctly, you have the ESC button wired to 1SW8, and both this and P3Right and MAME UI Cancel are set to V?

Best suggestion is to use WinIPAC to set 1SW8 to ESC and then reset MAME so UI CANCEL is back to Escape also.

No, reset MAME as in start a game and go to TAB - "Input All Games" and set UI CANCEL to ESC.
