I'm starting to map out my stand alone cp and the box, and now i have a question to all.

Should I slope the top or lay it flat?

What have you guys found to work the best, and what might be the best angle if it was slopped?

My CP slopes about an inch over ~13 inches and feels just right.  Search a bit, it's been discussed.  I suggest keywords "CP angle" or "control panel angle."

yeah i sloped mine just a little.  i would also go to your local arcade (if you have one) and see what their slope feels like.  its usually about an inch.  but some have steeper.

This has actually been a large concern for me recently, and make sure you don't ignore it. On my cab it slopes down a couple of inches across it's 14 inch depth. I started getting major pain in my wrist after less than half an hour of playing. I'm about 6' and the angle my hand was at was killing me. I ended up taking the top off, then propping the front up so that it sloped away from me, towards the monitor. That made the pain go away, but obviously wasn't a permanent option.

This weekend I picked up a couple of 29" barstools at Target and put the cp back in it's original position. This totally fixed the problem and I am much more confortable now. So judge based on your height and if you will be using stools or not. Also try to mimick the angle and lift your fingers up to find a comfortable slope. Good luck, and stools still may be on sale at target!

I have made 5 CP's and they are all flat and all feel great, just a matter of how far off the ground the surface of the CP is and how tall you are. Ergonomically if you measure the distance from your elbow bone to the ground and subtract 1-2 inches you will be good for the height of your CP surface.

Well i'm going to be building my CP as a stand alone.
Its going to be connected to my computer that sits under my T.V.  and more then likly sit on my coffee table when i'm playing. In this type of setup, i think that sitting on the couch and being hunched over the CP a flat top would be best. But thanks for the advice.

Yea, I think flat is definitely better for a coffee table top cp.

Mock up something with a board sized to your CP and a couple blocks of wood.  Set it up on your coffee table and test playing on it.  Then shim the back an inch and try again.  That'd give you a better idea of whether you will truly favor the zero-incline or not.
