Mach 3: Any hope it will work?
« on: April 12, 2004, 04:54:34 pm »
Is there any hope that in the future Mach 3 will work?  I loved the game in the arcade and would love to see it work with mame.  Would one ultimately need the laserdisc?  Just wondering.

Supposedly there is a version of daphne that will play it but it isn't an official release and I don't know where you would find it.
Check out this page though.

In the future? Try, it works right now, baby. I get the closest shave ever with that puppy.

Sorry. Dumb joke.

Thanks for the link.  I am going to try those instructions tomorrow and hopefully be playing mach3 soon.  This makes me want to find a working mach3 cabinet to add to the collection.

It may be a joke, but I gotta tell you, the Mach 3 DOES give me the best shave I've ever had.  I can even go against the grain with NO irritation.  And I've got really sensitive skin.

Anyone try it?

I haven't found the right files (not asking here)...

I remember the xbox port of daphne had it working.  But I could never get my vid file to sync with the game properly.  Still was a bit of fun and it was loaded with nostalgia...

Pricey.  But consider this: I used the same razor for nigh unto three months.  On one blade.  After a month and a half I couldn't go against the grain, but it still gave me an excellent shave.  So the price works out, if you take into consideration the blade will last a very long time.

On that note exactly I think we've gone too far. :)

I like the schick three blade one, BTW, Flexible head feels much nicer on the skin.

damn you all!!!!

I'm trying to find out if the alt version of mame with mach 3 support is worth playing..

And all you can do is talk about shavers...

Even the mention of the womens version and shaving legs wasn't that interesting (note:  Please go into more detail and pictures in future!)

and last..

...

I use a mach3 myself... I kinda like them.  Enought to rebuy them and not look elsewhere...  But I"m considering moving back to an electric now that I am working at a new location where I need to shave daily...

And my wife loves the womens version also...

I started on the directions given on the boldtower site, but my limited computer abilities wouldn't allow me succeed.

Oh, and the mach3 razor is overpriced no matter how long it lasts.

I am attempting to compile this patch into NoNameMAME 0.079u4.05.

I must have something set up wrong.  I get the following error when trying to compile without the patch.

Linking noname.exe...
c:\mingw\bin\..\lib\gcc-lib\mingw32\3.2.3\..\..\..\..\mingw32\bin\ld.exe: cannot find -lz
make: *** [noname.exe] Error 1

I think that zlib is not setup correctly, but I am not sure what I need to do to fix it.  I have managed to compile MAME before, but the directions from the Mach3/FireFox patch are a little different than the ones for regular MAME.

OK, I got past the -lz error and I can compile without the patch.

I had to modify the .patch file to reference noname.mak instead of mame.mak.

I'm stuck again.

I applied the patch and tried to compile the patched code.

I had a problem with the mpeg libs, but I copied them to the correct place and got past that.

Now I am getting this error:
$ make OS=win
Compiling src/vidhrdw/laserdsk.c...
cc1.exe: warnings being treated as errors
src/vidhrdw/laserdsk.c: In function `init_mpeg':

c:\mingw\bin\make.exe: *** [obj/noname/vidhrdw/laserdsk.o] Error 1

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'll keep trying, but I am not really a C programmer so it could take a while.

Oh, and the mach3 razor is overpriced no matter how long it lasts.

For the shave that it gives, combined with the long-lasting blade, how can you say that?  I've actually saved money by using these.  I was using cheapies that gave me 3-4 shaves before becoming useless.  Now I get three months of shaves before tossing.

Sorry to continue the thread highjack, but I use the Mach 3 as well, but I find that, a large amount of blade dulling is caused by the blade oxidizing after being used in water and then set out to dry.  I store my razor upside down in a glass half filled with rubbing alcohol.  Keeps the blade sharp for quite a long time.  It does have a tendency to screw up the moisture strips on the Mach 3 but after a few shaves the goo that is produced goes away.

What I meant was I didn't like the shave the Mach3 gave me, so I deemed it overpriced.  I got one free in the mail to try and just didn't care for it.  I prefer the schick slim twin of the few I have tried.

I will definitely have to try the alcohol trick.  Worth the scientific experiment.

And please, if anyone gets Mach3 (the game) to work, let me know how as I am still longing to play it.
