Question on pedal inputs
« on: April 02, 2004, 03:31:55 pm »
This is more for planning purposes, not so much a control question - i.e. I can use a pot based pedal even if the real game used a switch.

Do I need to plan for three pedals, or do I need four. (Six?)

I know a lot of games used a single gas pedal, some had a gas and brake, a few had a gas, brake and clutch.

Most driving games that were two player or three player were gas only.

Were there any two-player gas and brake games?

Any three player gas and brake games?

Any two or three player clutch gas and brake games?

Thanks in advance!

I've played alot of racing games over the years.

And most Dual racing (Each Player having their own monitor) were gas & brake per player only.  Also, most F1 arcade racing games had both a gas & brake.

When its a 2/3 players - 1 monitor cabinet racing games, it's mainly a gas pedel only per player.  (Championship sprint, Super Off road.)

I've only seen a clutch added in "Hard Driving", its clone and the Ferrari Challenge arcade game.   And I've never seen a 2 player - 3 pedel Gas, brake & Clutch game.

Hope this helps.

Are any of these in MAME?  I thought we decided in another thread that there were no multi-player 270-degree wheel games.  Are these 360 wheel games then?

Dual Player?  In mame (or likely coming to a future MAME)?

SF Rush has a clutch also, I'm pretty sure.  But, if I understand correctly, this tells me I probably want to support dual brake pedals more than single clutch pedals (and don't need to support dual clutch pedals at all) which is what I really wanted to know.

I was speaking regarding dual player games in the arcades... Yes most of the dual player games are in Mame, but they dont support dual player racing. And I dont think there's any 360 dual player games.

360 wheels are used when there's 2/3 people playing on one screen.

I'm going to create the following:

- 2 player panel with 2 - 270 wheels (not sure what type of shifter to add....)

- 2 or 3 player panel with 2/3 - 360 wheels

And I will have a gas/brake combination on the bottom of cabinet for each player.
