marquee light problems

Hi, I'm a newbie to this stuff, however am very intrested and learning rapidly thanks to all of the information on this forum. I've just purchased my cabinet. It's a 4 player Blitz 2000 convert from an original 4 player simpsons dedicated. It's in rough shape and I've been getting it cleaned up.
However, I can't get the marquee light to work. I've put a new bulb in it to no avail. Is there anything else I should know or try? Is there sometimes a switch for it somewhere that I can't find? Should I just get a new lamp assembly with a 110volt connector since I am converting it to mame? Thanks for your help, you'll hear more from me!

Could be the balast or the starter.

Home Depot has a cheap 10" flourescent light fixture for like $8.    You got enough of planning ahead of you, why spend valuable time trying to fix an old light fixture....... my 2 cents.

Did you replace both the tube AND the starter? If so then you might need a ballast.

Wal-Mart has bottom of the line G.E. units even cheaper at $7

I can't say how the quality compares to the Home Depot units but at that price point, there can't be a lot of difference.   My G.E. unit doesn't have a separate ground line (if it matters to anyone) but it does have a plug and a switch on the unit.  It isn't one of those "shop light" jobs that you have to wire yourself.

If you do purchase a new light, make sure you wire it with correct polarization.

The white wire goes to the wide prong.  Remember WHITE=WIDE.

On a lamp cord, the wire with the "rib" or "ridge" is the "white" wire and connects to the wide "polarized" prong.

If you do decide to purchase a new light, make sure it either comes on when power is applied or has a slide switch you can set to on so that the light comes on when power is applied.
