Has anyone added a Steering wheel & pedels to their cab?

Hello

I'm tired of playing racing games with a joystick.  And would like to add some arcade wheels and pedels to my cab.

Does anyone have any examples or plans on how best to do this?

Working on a steering wheel setup right now. That's just a simple mouse hack same as a spinner. The shifter is no different than a two way joystick. I'm still a little fuzzy on how I'm going to do the pedals.

My cab is going to have 2 analog pedals (Happ type) permanantly in the right hand side of the cab (under the coin door).

I am using swappable control panels, so intend to have 1 with a Pole Position wheel (interfaced with mouse hack), and another with a ~270 deg wheel or yoke.

Analog pedals and ~270deg wheels can be interfaced using 1UP's dual strike hack, or by replacing the pots with 100k ones and wiring to the gameport.  Hopefully Dave's analog interface will become available soon to add a simpler alternative

Another question:  Does Mame support player vs player on individual monitor's?  Like the driving arcade games??

Hmm... gameport or dualstrike? Since my cab is powered by Mac guts I may be on my own for pedals. I'm sure I'll work out something.

Yes I believe so...try searching for 'analog interace' or similar - there was a post here some time ago...haven't heard much since

Stingray: you could try using 100k pots, wire to a gameport plug and then get a gameport > USB convertor.  I have one which seemed to work fine in Win98, a bit iffy in XP (kept loosing calibration).  I couldn't say how well they work with MacOS but maybe worth a try...

Now that you mention it I think I have an old Gameport to ADB converter (this is an older Mac and it has an ADB -Apple Desktop Bus- port). Might see what I can do with that. Of course now that I think about it I'm pretty sure I've seen ADB pedals somewhere. Might have to do some eBay shopping.

I added a Pole Position wheel (360), Spy Hunter wheel (270), Star Wars yoke, Sega HangOn motorcycle steering assembly, two sets of gas/brake pedals (one set wired for single-axis and the other set for dual-axis) and 4 different types of shifters (4way, 3way, 2way return to center and 2way not return to center).

Quick note about Daves analog->digital board.

Its really nice.  It handles 5 axis (so 2 T2 guns, or a starwars and an analog pedal (for hydra) ect).  Mame works GREAT with configuring them (so one controller for multiple controls works great).

It uses screw in terminals that are very easy.  And has 14 buttons to boot.  

the trouble... I'm not sure when the release date is.  I know there is one more round of beta chips... And hopefully that will be it.

Anyway... I have a dual strike controller... and have all my controls wired so I can plug them in back and forth between them.  The don't think the dual strike will be used at all.  The other is just too nice.

I went to 1up's site (http://www.1uparcade.com/projects-dualstrike.html) and read his description of how to hack a MS Dual Strike controller to connect a Star Wars yoke.  This site shows how to hack to the directional pad  (Up, Down, Left, Right), Left Pot and Right Pot since this is all the inputs you need for a Star Wars yoke.    However, I wanted to utilize all of the other buttons available on a MS Dual Strike gamepad (ie: A, B, C, D, X, Y, LeftTrigger and RightTrigger) so I hacked these as well.   I have pictures of the actual Dual Strike connections and solder points at my site http://unclet.arcadecontrols.com   ...... just go into the driving cabinet section, click on Dual Strike Hack and then click Dual Strike Hack Photos.   Hope this helps.....


As for the shifters, I really do not have a game mapping yet.   I just realized that there are basically 4 different kinds of shifters, so I got one of each......

1) 4-way shifter
2) 3-way shifter with turbo button
3) 2-way (Forward/Reverse) "return-to-center" shifter with turbo button
4) 2-way (Low/High) shifter "non-return-to-center" shifter with turbo button


About 4 weeks after I got my cabinet complete, my TV died and I just only got around to getting it fixed, so I have not even played that many games on it yet...... although Star Wars and Spy Hunter are very cool.....

Will this work with 360 degree steering wheels or is it for 270?

If my understanding is correct, then 360 degree wheels are optical, and 270 degree wheels are analog w/ potentiometers.  If this is the case, then my interface will work only with 270 degree wheels.  If they're both pot based, they should both work.

360 wheels are indeed optical. You can hook one up through a mouse hack or an optipac same as a spinner.
