Including shipping, which is crazy, the cost is over $20 already).

Check this one out:

You simply go to Home Depot and pick a roll up yourself for $6 or $7.

Incredible...... nice profit margin

I THINK potential bidders think they are buying actual control panel overlay material (the grainy plastic) and not contact paper.

Man, I should start selling that stuff!

This guy sells this stuff all the time.  I emailed him once, asking why, when you can pick it up @ Wal-Mart for like $6 a roll (or less).  His reply?  "It's longer than the stuff you get @ Wal-Mart."  Somehow, I don't believe him.

Yeah, I asked him if there was any difference between that stuff he is selling and the Home Depot brand which is $6 a roll and is definitely 18"x24'  just like his.   I have not received a reply yet.  :)  After all, this is where I got my black marble contact paper from and used on my standup cab.

I dont miind people making a profit but can not stand people getting ripped off!

Is it wrong to email a high bidder and gently suggest he look at wal-mart--would hate to have anyone get screwed over such a minor thing as contact paper :P  ?  I guess buyer beware ::)

But it says MAME in the product description so it must be better suited for control panels than the ones you'd buy at Home Depot.

Too bad that crap eventually rips or wears thru if you don't cover it with plexi. And I'm pretty sure that color is call "Black Onyx" and not "Marble"

In the sellers defense it is hard to find "Black Onyx", the Home Depots by me rarely have it. Maybe there's alot of people covering their control panels with it (or at least their shelves).

You can't get high bidder email addresses so there is no way to contact them.

You dont need their email address.  Just click on their Ebay username and send them an email via Ebay.....

If someone is too uninformed (or possibly "stupid") to research where to get something for cheap, it is not unethical to sell them a higher priced product of the same caliber.

I do think it is unethical to try to snipe somebody's customers out of spite. Whether it is directing them to another retailer, or selling to them directly, it isn't a good practice.

If somebody was really getting "ripped off" by an unethical, misleading trader with incorrect product description or bad trading habits, I would be all for tipping off a potential buyer. Tipping them off to cheaper prices during an auction isn't acceptable in my opinion.

At a certain point...  He is providing a service.  Even if it's just allowing people to buy stuff without driving to a home depot.

Lots of people could walk into a home depot and tell people in every line where they could buy the same item cheaper  (not everything at homedepot is cheap... its just convient to have it all in one spot)...

ebay is just a little more that way.

Do I feel bad for the people who charge to much on ebay?  I don't know.... . but I DON'T feel bad about people who buy stuff on ebay without doing a quick search online to find out what they really go for....  ebay and google should go hand in hand... so many times I've seen people trying to sell used items for more then you can buy them new for...

Well if the bidders are THAT stupid then its their problem. I don't blame the seller at all. But his auction IS kinda misleading but its ebay.

The buyer is too dumb to even look around so he/they should pay $36 for a $3.99 roll.
I think I will be selling too :-X

I haven't glossed over the Ebay rules lately, but I do think it's illegal to e-mail bidders in an attempt to kill a sale.  Would a bidder actually report you?  Doubtful.  But if they did, you'd be at Ebay's mercy.

Why would emailing them be illegal? LOL, thats nuts.  Unless someone else can prove me otherwise, i really doubt that its illegal to warn someone.  BUT if that person decides to try to back out of an auction , then they might cause themselves more grief.   I would say if nothing else, maybe send them an email AFTER they have won and inform them of their stupidity lol.
lol.

I doubt it's illegal, but it's probably against ebay's rules. Since the communication would have to go through their messaging system, they'd have a log of it and could potentially revoke your account or give you a stern warning or send you to bed without dinner or whatever it is that they do to those who break their rules.

It's not really unethical since the guy is not outright lying and saying that it is XX mil thick CP covering material.  It is the uninformed (read: ignorant) buyers who are making that assumption.  I see sellers essentially ripping people off on ebay constantly.  If people are dumb enough to go for it then so be it.  I refuse to be one of those sellers, just to make a few bucks though.
