NeoGeo PCB JAMMA?
« on: October 11, 2003, 12:07:24 pm »
I'm really considering turning my second machine into a NeoGeo since I love pretty much every NeoGeo game ever, lol

My question is: Is the NeoGeo PCB a JAMMA standard board, or is it something entirely different? I searched the 'net a bit and some just say its the MVS system, one said it was JAMMA, etc etc. I figured you guys would have a definite answer. I'm almost positive that it IS, I just want to make sure.

I'm just wondering if I'm lucky enough to just buy a NeoGeo board and some carts and plug it into my JAMMA cab, or if it's going to be more complicated than that.

Not true...they are somewhat different:

Most of the big important pinouts are the same, but the overall harness pinouts are not exactly the same.

All the one slot motherboards are full JAMMA standard.

Two, Four and Six slot mobos are MVS (Multi Video System) standard pinout.

The soundchip on the multi slot boards can be damaged over time when used with a JAMMA harness.

... and just how exactly would the harness damage the sound chip?

MVS pinout is stereo and the JAMMA harness is mono, the soundchip gets damaged because of the incorrect wiring - some pins need switching.

The guys in Tech Support over at Neo-Geo.com/forums will be able to give the complete reasons, but be assured the sound will go bad.
