Space Firebird Mini
« on: August 20, 2003, 01:58:32 am »
I have this Space Firebird mini, and I just don't think I want to mess around with it. I don't really have a spare computer for it, and it would just be duplicating the 4-way vertical cabinet that I already have.

It is in very good condition. It is externally complete except for the joystick. It will take about a 14" monitor mounted vertically, and I will even throw in one of those with the deal.

It would be good to make a cabinet for old vertical shooters. The cabinet itself is VERY small. About the size of a Moppet video really.

It is located in St. Louis, MO, and if there is any interest, then I will take a few pictures and post them here.

i might be interested in your cab. i've got a project brewing in the back of my head and a mini cab would be perfect. if you've got some pics i'd like to see them. thanks.

I will have to go visit the thing and photograph it and measure it. But the bezel is small, you won't be jamming a 19" in there, but you may be able to get a 14" in horizontally, but the bezel is vertical, so I would recommend staying with that.

Just making a guess though, I would say 52" tall, 18" wide, and maybe 2 feet deep.

Now, lets see how close my guesses are to reality. It could not be much taller than that, because I remember it fitting in the back seat of a Caprice laying down. It just BARELY fit, so it is as tall as the back seat of a Caprice is wide.

If you want a general idea of what it looks like, then look for pictures of a Sega Turbo mini. It is the same basic cabinet, just with different controls and a different marquee area.

Whoo hoo. I found some pictures of one. Now I don't actually have to go photograph mine.

Mine looks just like that, except that it is in better condition, and isn't missing the back door or lower coin door like that one is.

thanks for the info and pics. my web search for the mini version of that game wasn't very successful.

i have to say i had a more traditional cab in mind. hmmmm, this one might work tho, but i'd put a smaller value on it since it's not exactly what i'm after. being in good condition does help.

i tell ya what, it'll be a few days before i make my trip to stl, if you still have it maybe we can talk some then. by the way what did you have in mind value wise or trade wise?

Here are approximate measurements. I didn't have a tape measure handy, so I had to use an 8.5x11 piece of paper to measure.

54" Tall
23" Deep.

The bezel is about 18" wide and 16" tall.

I forgot to measure the actual width of the cabinet, but it is probably right at about "20, since the bezel is 18".

I will take $50 for it, including the monitor.

paige,
what's the working condition of the monitor? and is this the original one, or a replacement. if replacement does it fit the factory brackets.
i'm not sure i'd give $50 for the cab being it's not exactly what i'm after, but i'd be willing to trade for it. here's some parts i have:

amd k6-2 mobo, cpu, 32 mb ram should run classics on mame, pinmame etc. with no probs.

exidy gun base, swivel, stock, and trigger/grip section(no electronics) from a 440 shooter(cheyenne or combat from the looks of it)- i got these to hack a lightgun into a 440 shooteresque control, i've since decided to just buy a real game and swap out pcb's to play the different games. i actually have 2 complete guns ie. stock, swivel, trigger(1 nos stock!), 2 extra swivels, and 2 extra trigger/grips. i'm going to keep one complete set(with nos stock) just in case, but the rest i'll trade.

neo geo control panel (was originally a karate champ), populated with 2 8 ways and a bunch of micro switch buttons(including a player 1 start with the little guy on it, ply 2 is plain white).

centronics db35 extension cables. i bought a bunch of these for quick disconnects to an encoder. note there's not 35 wires inside, something like 26-27, still pretty useful.

pc flight stick, still in the box. i was going to hack a flight stick on to a happs joy.
(use this and get your tron panel correct, heh heh)

pc trackball

that just about covers all my current tradeables. i might turn up some more stuff a little later when i get into the shop. i'll post if i do.
get back to me if there's anything your interested in.

The monitor is a standard 14" VGA pc monitor that was decased. It isn't even installed in it. It is just the monitor I had set aside for the machine.

I'll take the motherboard and one of the Exidy gun assemblys. If the mobo isn't at least a 350 mhz then I also want the Neo Geo panel.

How does that sound. And any more details about the motherboard?

the mobo is an atrend atc-5000, cpu is 233mhz, ram 32 mb dimm.

i'd have to pass on all the mobo/gun/cp deal, but i could kick in any two of the following with the mobo/gun:

flight stick
pc trackball
10 x-arcade buttons(new)
isa sound card

or

we could trade gun parts/cp and any two of the above add-ons.

Hmmm. Ok, Motherboard/gun and the ten buttons. Hopefully that motherboard has enough horsepower to run Battlezone.

When do you want to pick it up?

Ok, the cabinet itself isn't in my house, but that won't be a problem as long as you can make an evening pickup. Otherwise I can go get it, and bring it to my house.
