Sound issue in mame - updated info and more confusing
« on: November 25, 2008, 08:23:50 am »
Hi folks, hoping someone can help

Have just completed a MAME cab which runs great except the sound has an echo in it and or is garbled.  Running a P4 3.6 Ghz Dell optiflex GX280 which has an onboard Soundmax Digital Audio system.  I am running the sound through a cheap amp out of some PC speakers to a set of 4 ohm car speakers.  I have now added a soundblaster soundcard, (actually I tried 2) with no change.  I have also tried some fairly good PC speakers which are also garbled / echoed which leads me to believe it is MAME as the windows bootup and shutdown sound are fine.  I have fiddled with the sound defauls to no effect in MAME.

HELP!!!!!

Any suggestions??

thanks

Have you tried using a normal (unhacked) set of PC speakers?  That way you can narrow down the problem.  Either its your sound card, or its your current speaker setup.

Echo is often an option in the mixer for karaoke use, or one of the pointless sound environments like bathroom or stormwater pipe has being turned on by accident. But try other speakers or headphones first tho...

Might be relevant .... but I just had the same thing happen to me when trying MAMEv128 and fartin' around with the Touchmaster and Megatouch games. (which is all I had loaded)

The sound was horribly echoing and garbled and the video was dog slow.

Was running onboard video and sound.

Popped in a better video card and both issues cleared right up.

So maybe it's a memory hogging issue.
