Zappercade Cabinet Project
« on: June 09, 2003, 06:46:25 pm »
Here's my progress on my vertical monitor cabinet. Only the control panel is left to finish. I still have the original Bagman CP with a custom purple handle 4-way wico I had made by Tom Giorgio (you've probably seen his joystick replicas for sale on eBay). Inside there's a med-res arcade monitor, I-Pac, working coin door and a pull out drawer at the bottom with a mouse and keyboard.

This cabinet has been a work-in-progress for over a year, I decided to post some pics after seeing Hoppity's cabinet posted here (see the news page 05/29/2003). Hoppity had the same idea I had making a MAME marquee based on the TRON logo. Don't go calling me a copycat Hoppity  ;D

Great work. I hope to have a vertical only cabinet someday myself!
If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

Very nice, I like the purple/blue colour scheme, a lot of people seem to go for that. Incidentally how much did the purple Wico handle cost?

And would it be possible to see a closeup of the control panel.

Thanks, I think a vertical monitor cabinet is worth it even if you only have a few vert games you like playing. It always brings back memories of the 1982 Chuck E. Cheese's days.

Tom Giorgio n2new@aol.com made three of the purple joysticks for me for $50. Dark purple Wico style 8-way leafswitch ball handle joysticks with 3-5/8" long stainless steel shafts. He can make them in longer sizes and make them fit Happ style joysticks. His prices go up and down, just email him and ask if he still makes joysticks. Here's the diagram I sent him when I had them made.

Beautiful, beautiful work Zapper. Was the cabinet a conversion or scratch built? Did you have that trigger stick made too? If so, what did that run?

I just got Tom to make me 3 sticks two weeks ago. Got green ones, 2 4" and one 3.5" . Ran me 32.00 with shipping included.

Here's a pic of the Tom Giorgio made purple joystick, the ball doesn't have a seem around the middle which is quite nice. He told me he uses fluorecent inks to make them but they don't glow under a black light.

The cabinet was a dead Bagman once, now only the control panel is left to finish MAMEing it. The trigger joystick I plan to add to a TRON/Tempest style control panel. It's a Wico leafswitch base with a Sega Saturn Virtual On joystick handle.
