From Scratch Build: NeoGeo MVS themed
« on: November 25, 2016, 10:01:01 am »
I've always been a big fan of the NeoGeo MVS units, and the games.
My first attempt at a bartop was a few years ago and was a NeoGeo theme.
I recently moved into a bigger house and, when browsing Ebay saw a 20" Dell 4:3 FP2001 for about £10....
So I thought a bigger cabinet might be a nice home for it.

I'm not much good at woodwork, but I try! I see some of the project here and the level of skill in the carpentry is amazing, well beyond what I could ever do regardless of the tools at my disposal.

So this is attempt at cabinet 2, loosely based around an MVS cabinet, but slightly shrunk down to 5ft tall.

Sides Cut

Batons attached and base attached to side A

CP on (this was a mistake I'll get on too!)

Screen fitting test.... (And the start of the filling of the gaps in my non-circular saw enabled woodworking!)

Coat of paint (I primed it first) and coin door (MARS) in

Kind of up to date:
Not yet finished, but (bad plan) playable!

Coin mech is working, 10p per play, but takes 20/50/£1 coins

Need to fix the marquee in place

Do the back cover/fans

Sort out an effective exit/back button on the current controls - I hate extra buttons, so I'll be using what's on the panel.

Calibrate my AimTrak and maybe fit the recoil option.

Sort out non-mame games, not many but I like the American Laser Games series, VirtuaCop and HOTD which I don't think work well in MAME - I have PC versions of HOTD2 and 3.

Most annoying job is to get the side art re-printed as apparently I can't count or measure :(

Glad to hear you're going to fix that side art. It's hard to be patient through these projects and easy to want to jump right in and start playing. Take the time to measure and plan it out in Illustrator/Photoshop/Gimp and your results will be that much better.

To really get that MVS feel, the front coin panel should be red too. If you're not inclined/confident to do the painting, maybe some red satin finish vinyl would work? I'd say do the same for the sides then get the white SNK and MVS logos printed into die-cut decals so you can easily arrange them.

The buttons on the control panel could use some color as well and would be a cheap upgrade.
