Advice Wanted
« on: October 04, 2005, 05:44:11 pm »
I have a 800mhz p3 w/ 192mb of ram on 98se... this is running with a Trident Blade t64 video card and an arcade monitor at 15hz.

What is the best setup for MAME (and potentially other emulators) with a front end.

I LOVE Mamewah, but wonder if I can get it to run at the correct frequency and if it can interface with advancemame. Are there any guides out there on how to get windows to boot into mamewah directly??

I tried arcadeOS through dos and it is just *ok*

I haven't tried AdvanceMenu

Any suggestions??

I would first try (win commandline) MAME in Windows and (dos) MAME in dos...see which performs best and let that choose for you.

I *think* you should be able to get Windows/MAMEWAH wo run at 15khz using PowerStrip...maybe someone else can confirm that.

If you go for DOS you could give GameLauncher a try.

Also, try using an older build like 0.61 or .063 rather than 0.100 as your primary build and only use later builds for games that weren't available in the earlier builds.

John...Could you please load up NBA Jam and tell me if there is any stuttering or any frames per second loss at all with your setup? I have a Pentium 3 1 gig but only 256 ram and a 64mb video card with XP...But I have skiped frames and stuttering with it...I'm missing about 20 FPS. Thanks, Dan

Maybe 800MHZ isn't enough for NBA JAM, my Celeron 800MHZ with 256MB used to get about 6fps on that game.

You probably need at least 1ghz for that, probably more like 1.2ghz.

I can confirm that 1 ghz is just not enough horsepower for NBA JAM.

NO MORE!!

I loaded NBA Jam 3.01 and it crawled along, stuttered, spit and farted the whole way.
I have been using this system for my older arcade games as I am a bit older and recall the games of the late 70's and early eighties.  All of these games work fine with this system.
I should look at upgrading my CPU and MB.
Hope this helps.
