Webhosting & domain name registration?
« on: August 10, 2004, 05:24:24 pm »
I'm wanting to get my own domain name and and webspace and was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with good or bad companies or anything like that.  I'm definately wnating something without popup ads and the like since I want to use part of this as a professional site for my art portfolio.  Any suggestions would be great. ;D

In terms of domain registration, www.namecheap.com, is, IMHO, the best since it includes all useful features for free (unlike godaddy...i think).

Based on recomendations from people and comparing services, price and resources / tools I am planning on moving my hosting from POWWEB which has probably the worst support of any host I've used to Dreamhost.

Definitely shop arround and find a host that offers the features you think you will need.

I've been happy with godaddy for registration and 1and1.com for hosting.
Edit: that being said, my website is inexplicably down for some reason for the first time in quite a while. So.... slighly less happy :)

I plan on creating the pages in dreamweaver and just really having a way to display images and such.  I got a recommendation from my tech buddy for godaddy.com and I checked them out a little this morning.  That seemed like a pretty good deal.

How does this work though? Do I get my name form one place and webspace from another?  I've seen places that look like they just have names and others that are just space.  and still others that have both.  Any advantages to either?  Simply convenience?
