WG K7000 - What resolution?
« on: April 13, 2016, 11:37:53 pm »
I have a WG K7000 in my neo geo that I will be using with a MAME PC, emulating only neo geo games. I designed a theme for attract mode front end with a 320x240 resolution. I assumed that because it is a “low res” monitor, that I would design the front end for 240p. I then realized that I don’t have a way I can think of to force attract mode to a resolution different from windows. After reviewing the spec sheet on my monitor, it has me raising some questions.

Windows 7 will display at lowest 480i I believe, so should I optimize my layout for 640x480 resolution?

WG K7000 Spec sheet declares 640 X 200. With a line count of 200, does it not display the neo geo board at its native 224 lines? How would it be able to display 480i without dropping lines?

Thank you.

According to Calamity/GroovyMame, the K7000 can properly do 240p/480i - but WG spec sheet says 200 lines?

That specs sheet is wrong.

15.7 kHz ----> 240p / 480i @ 60 Hz,  288p / 576i @ 50 Hz

(any monitor supporting 15.7 kHz will support 240p / 480i)

The sheet also specifies 15.1 kHz instead 15.7 which is also wrong.

Probably the confusion comes from the CGA having 200-line modes, but those were 70 Hz instead of 60 Hz.
