Fun Times at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk!
« on: May 25, 2012, 02:18:35 pm »
The wife and I took our youngest to Santa Cruz, CA and Montery, CA the last few days and spent an entire afternoon at the Boardwalk arcade.  I'm happy to say that the arcade had a decent size classics section.  Many vector games to choose from.  Star Wars, Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Battlezone, Tempest, and Space Duel all in working order.  Also had Stargate, Ms PacMan, Tron, Gorf, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, Q-Bert, Sea Wolf, and more.  For those of you who have been before, I noticed that most of the pins have been moved to the second floor of Neptunes Kingdom.  All told they have about 15 pins, mostly new.  The classics seemed to be gone, probably due to high maintenance issues.  I'd highly recommend a visit.  Sorry for the grainy cell phone pics!  The first is my 5 year old trying out Star Wars.
Please!  Give me the good news first!

I'm thinking of doing that trip this July (maybe catch CAX at the same time) for my graduation present.

Any suggestions for driving and hotel stays?
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

We usually Do Santa Cruz the first day and then stay at Motel 6 in Watsonville.  It is only 20 minutes up Highway 1 and cost $60 a night.  Santa Cruz starts at double that rate and climbs.  From Watsonville it is only another 20 or 30 minutes to Montery.  Santa Cruz Boardwalk and Montery Aquarium are a must see.  Santa Cruz has Concerts every Friday night in the summer.  Downtown Santa Cruz has some cool swap shops and shopping.

I was in a background shot on MTV 25 years ago playing on those things.  All I knew was I met this black woman that talked funny and told me to ask my parents if it was okay if I was on TV.  Downtown Julie Brown FTW.

wow, haven't heard that name thrown out in years. Back in the day when MTV actually had music videos.

What's the one with the cement animals and you can turn a nozzle and make them spray mist out of their noses?  Santa Monica?

Can also distinctly remember playing a SEGA Star Trek sitdown vector at that thing.  Someone was auctioning one off on E-bay and claimed it was the same one.  The wallet was really twitching...

I looked for the Star Trek game while I was there and it is definitely gone.  I was looking forward to playing it too!  Forget Downtown Julie Brown!  Nina Blackwood Forever!

We also get the country music station but that's only good for muting and watching hot blonds line dance in silence.

wow, that cab in the first pic, I bet you could convert that to an awesome chair.
