Galaga Arcade Cabinet
« on: January 22, 2010, 10:35:34 am »
I just finished building a Galaga based cabinet from scratch. Below are some pictures of the building phase.

After I finished cutting most of the pieces, I did a quick test to see if everything was the right size. After that I started painting.

galaga is one of my most favourite,if not my favourite arcade game.i have jamma 60 in 1 and all i realy play is galaga,me and my mate have sessions ever now and then.

are you going to have this for just galaga, mame, jamma, what do you intend to do with it?

it took some getting use to with sanwa sticks.i would have loved to have had galaga for one of the two table tops i have here in my possession,1 is running pacman and the other moon alien.something for me to think about and perhaps do in the future.

Nice.  Stick a 4-way in there and with the 1 button you can run about 30 or so games and no one will be able to tell it isn't an authentic Galaga cabinet until they exit out to a gamelist.  Looks good so far.

I really like the design of the original Galaga cabinet, but I wanted to make a few chances.

I wanted to create a two player cabinet but I didn't want 60 buttons and spinners etc. on my control panel. So I decided to go for 2 joysticks, 3 buttons each and a one player, two player and coin button.

Second, I'm probably going to play more horizontal games to the display was going to be horizontal.

Great work, I think my next build will be a Galaga Cabinet. Might even make it a dedicated cab considering it is the game I mainly play, though jamma sounds interesting. Obviously from the photos you are going to play other games on it.

You're absolutely right. The mag-stik plus stick is really great. I like the way you can switch from 4 to 8 directional without taking the panel apart.

Very nice work.

I have a suggestion for the forum: what do you guys think about having a forum setup for projects like this, projects where someone builds a replica cab from scratch, keeping to the original specs?
I know someday I would like to build a replica donkey kong.

I think that's a great idea. I know Jakobud has all the plans, but it's easier knowing that someone build it from scratch and seeing pictures and hopefully some tips.

glad you necrobumped this, I missed it the first time!

Fantastic build Sjaak. One question though, is that the kinda coin doors Galaga's had over there? Im used to the giant midway ones. Still, looks great.

I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Wow, that's my first build.  :o

Nope, it's not the correct coin door. Just something that was available at the time.
