Aimtrak calibration help, I can't use my mouse!
« on: January 08, 2010, 09:21:07 pm »
Hello all,

This is one of the most frustrating things i have ever experienced...

Setting up my aimtrak guns. LED pcb is positioned correctly and gun is ready to go. plug it in, windows detects fine and I can move the cursor around. Then in about 5 seconds the calibration starts and the cursor starts going back and forth out of the top left corner of the screen. Now this is normal and supposed to happen, however holding down the trigger for five seconds and then clicking as the ultimarc giude suggests does nothing.

The guide says if this does not work, download the config utility (to update the firmware) Now In config I select device one and it says It needs new firmware. But right at that time the gun starts calibration again And the mouse is uncontrollable and goes up to the left corner again! I have tried about 100 times to click through as fast as I can to get to the firmware screen but the gun's calibration takes over way to fast. I even tried to move the dialog box to the top left to try and click on it as the mouse moves by like a carnival game :laugh2:

Please help! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

EDIT: Just tested my second aimtrak and it does not have this problem. My other seems to be stuck in calibration mode... Do I have a bum unit?

I guess if this was happening to me my first thoughts would be if the trigger switch was working as intended. If it were stuck on it would do this since the default is set as such. Just a quick thought.

Thanks for the reply,

I thought of this and tore down my gun to test. With a continuity meter I confirmed the trigger and auxilllary buttons were both working and not stuck on. Through some reboots and such I managed to get the gun to calibrate, however the trigger button will not be recognized! I have tried setting it to multiple joypad buttons as well as both mouse buttons (hitting send each change to update the aimtrak) with no results. Like I said, I confirmed that the circuit is working inside with each trigger pull. The auxillary button works fine.

FIXED

After tearing the gun down about 400 times, I finally got both buttons to register. I had to wreck all of my beautiful hot glue work holding the Aimtrak pcb and wiring harness in place, but it was worth it. Rotating the wiring harness so that my gun trigger was wired to aux. and the secondary button to trigger seemed to do the trick. Both buttons register perfectly now.

I still have no idea what was causing the issue but I am happy.
