Anyone used a 32" CRT TV for a non showcase Cabinet?
« on: January 02, 2010, 09:36:19 pm »
I was given a Toshiba 32" TV which has an s-video input.  I would love to use this in a cabinet build and really don't want to build a showcase style cabinet.  Has anyone built a standard style cabinet with a 32" tv or is it just too big.  I could buy a smaller monitor and sell this one but I have it would would love to use it.  I tried to search for any builds or pictures with a 32" but they all seem to be showcases.

Thanks

I thought I saw a project where a guy put a 32" vertical into a mortal kombat cabinet.  I can't find the post but I remember pictures showing pac man was like the size of a quarter.  I'm pretty sure there were some shots of horizontal games and they looked pretty good as well.  Maybe somebody with better searching skills or memory can find that post.

the reason there are no other cabinets than showcases with a 3x inch screen is because of the picture quality. if u dont keep 1-2 meters distance while playing ure getting serious headache after some time . i have a 33 inch tv with a superb toshiba flatscreen in use ( great quality using dreamcast per vga input ) but would never consider building anything else with it than a showcase style cab.  btw :  svideo or composite is the first step 2 develope braincancer.

The bigger the TV, the larger the pixels are.  If you stand too close to a very large TV, you will start to see all of the rectangular pixels rather than the video content.  I don't know where that line between distance and TV size is, but my primary cab has a 27" JVC and it looks fine to me.  If it were much bigger, I would want to be farther back since I wouldn't be able to get everything in my field of vision without moving my head around.

that'd be me. Its a 32"Sharp TV mounted vertically in a KI2 cab (exact same dimensions as the aforementioed MK cab) Click the link in my sig for KI2MAME.
its actually gonna go up for sale on the cheap cheap soon, cant rotate other emulators like MAME, so Im gonna go with a JPAC and MAME my KI1 cab instead. Picture quality is pretty amazing through component (not composite) input.
