Based on information from the 4Ghz thread, I decided to get an E8400 with a Sunbeamtech Core Contact Freezer. Since this was an entirely new build, I didn't bother testing with the stock Intel cooler.

Right now, at idle, the cores run between 31-33C. It's been running Prime 95 for the last hour, and they've gotten up to 47C with both cores at 100%. This is without any overclocking whatsoever as I wanted to get an idea of what my benchmarks would be. All I did was build the PC without any modifications in the BIOS at all.

For those of you who are using the Core Contact, what are your operating temperatures? Do mine seem high for this heatsink with no overclocking?

Thanks to all who respond!

It has been a while, but I think I had similar numbers, and I seem to remember 57 at 4ghz. Mine will eventually crash at 4ghz due to the temps; it usually lasted an hour or so in prime 95 . I dropped it back to stock a while back since I didn't have time to mess with it. I aam going to upgrade to win 7 this week, so I might try to look into it again. I just didn't see as much cooling as others have.

Thanks for the response, Paul! Eventually, I was able to get it to 4Ghz, and my temperatures were topped out at 59/58C with Prime95 running for 27 hours. Of course, this was in a cold room in my shop, so !it remains to be seen how well it will do in the summer. I still have some playing room until the maximum temperature, though, so I have my fingers crossed.
