I need some help setting up my touchscreen...
« on: December 12, 2009, 12:06:24 pm »
I bought one of the ELO 1545L 15" touchscreens off eBay from my message here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=98189.0

I am now trying to determine why I can't get a display.  I plugged in the power cord, VGA cable, and USB cable and installed the drivers on my PC using a different monitor.  When I turn on the power to the touchscreen, I just get a blue message stating "No Video Input. Please check cable".  I'm wondering if I got a defective unit, or if I'm doing something wrong.  I am using the same VGA cable that I normally use and it;s working fine. Thanks

Also, per the specs I had this set at 1024 x 768 resolution at 60 Hz.

afaik most touchscreen operate fine as a normal monitor if their touchscreen usb or serial is not plugged in.

I agree with Boba

The LCD monitor part should work regardless of the touchscreen funtionality.

Try doing a complete shutdown of the computer, restart and see if the computer bios finds LCD screen. If so, then let XP boot up, then plug in the usb cable for the touchscreen. Then make sure you calibrate the touchscreen. Very easy to do.

Make sure the power to the monitor is ON before you reboot the PC.

Yes, all touchscreens are just an added overlay.... underneath is nothing more than a plain monitor. They will work without the touchscreen (usb or serial) plugged in.

Thanks for the tips guys.  I tried them all with no luck.  The monitor is being recognized by the PC...the alignment program runs and then tells me "no touchscreen detected" when I unplug the USB cable.  So I'm convinced I just got one with a defective vga plug.  Hopefully the ebay guy will make sending a replacement easy.

I'm a bit confused, does the LCD screen itself work or not?  ???

In one statement you say it doesnt and in your last statement you say it does. Having the LCD working is only half the battle. So, does the LCD part of the screen work or not? Do you see windows boot up? If the LCD works, then we will work on the touchscreen overlay part of it. The VGA is only for the LCD part of it. The USB is for the touchscreen overlay.

Sounds like the touchscreen works but not the display itself.

Yea that was confusing.  The LCD does not work...I get nothing but the "no video input" message.  I can therefore not check the touchscreen aspect using that monitor.  Hooking my regular monitor up with the USB still attached to the touchsreen allows me to see that the PC sees the touchscreen (i.e. I can run the alignment program where it asks to touch the targets on the 4 corners of the screen and when I unplug the USB it says "no touchscreen detected".)
