Project Capcom (Finished!)
« on: November 23, 2009, 08:55:46 pm »
Hello all,

I've been working on this for a while now, and after many a horrible mistake I think it is ready for viewing.

The display is a 32" 1080p lcd. I know many grimace at the thought of their oldies running at 1000x the resolution they're supposed to but I don't mind   For street fighter IV and some naomi games it is worth it alone.
As far as the pc goes I'm too lazy to list the specs but it won't have a problem running anything for a few more years.

The rest of the parts include:

Over under coin door with U.S. .25 mechs
4 led tubes (to mount on the back)
Two 6.5" car speakers w/mini amp (subwoofer to come hopefully)
fluorescent lamp for the marquee with two hidden coin buttons on the very top of the machine  8)
1.5 million 120mm fans

ON TO THE PICTURES:

Marquee reads in Japanese  "Capcom Company Limited)
Painted by me in photoshop
Bonus points for guessing the character

The last image is a quick paint over to give it some appeal. When I have enough money the sides will feature a full digital painted mural on both sides.
The mock up includes a SFIV move list that will hopefully mount on the plexi below the monitor

Looking at his control panel, it looks like the left player has a JLF type mounting plate...

I don't really get why the back door is so small though? I'm guessing this might be one of those mistakes? Not all back doors should be that tight you know...

Nice work to the Queeg, what kind of an amp are you using to drive your speakers and subwoofer?

It will mostly like be Japanese controls because of the way the mounting plate opening looks and how thin the recess is for the plate it.  For HAPP/iL competition sticks you need a pretty deep recess like on my control panel:

I grew up playing on good old American HAPP or should I say modern day iL  >:D  I tried playing with Sanwa ball tops and thought I could get use to it by getting the bat top but still preferred my iL.

Ah yes. I didn't look at all the pics for a start as it would have taken my uber crap connection a few minutes to open each one

Ivwshane gets awarded 50 e-points!  :applaud:
This was my first wood working project ever, so naturally mistakes were expected to follow, just not in the sheer numbers I saw. The main problem was with my jigsaw, it was a 20$ black and decker and could not handle mdf. The blade came out a few times and destroyed the pieces I was working on. Oh and I also cut the coin door sideways originally  so I had to buy a $30.00 sheet of mdf to use only about 25% of it.

Franco, yes, I am using all Japanese parts. 2x JLFs, holes cut from your awesome guide, and all sanwa buttons with the exception of player buttons in the center as those will be happs. Player 1 controls are blue, player 2's are pink, hence the color scheme in the marquee.

Emphatic, As far as mistakes go, the size of the door was not one of them until you pointed it out haha. I have yet to do any work through it so I can comment on that later.

Mwong168, it's a Lepai mini amp I got for $20 off of Ebay. I believe I found out about it somewhere in this forum.

Yeah it produces some really nice sound. It's tiny profile is great as well as I can access it easily through the bottom of my coin door.

Nice, I like how it comes with a power adaptor too.  It comes with a plug adaptor so it will fit in a north american plug right?  I was looking at this one which I found in another thread, probably the same one you were looking in

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250501352536

It doesn't come with a power adaptor though but yours does.  Going to order two, one for a bartop cabinet which I plan on starting shortly and finish over a weekend and the other for my showcase cabinet which is about 60% done and been in limbo since this past August.

Yes, mine came with a North American cable, although it's just a 12v DC transformer with a standard circle jack at the end so you could really use any 12v adapter you have laying around.

I'll have more pics soon once I paint this over thanksgiving. I'll upload pics soon of my aimtrak guns and all the parts going in.

A small update,

I installed the monitor shelf so the woodwork is officially complete  :applaud:

First coat of paint is applied (tape is still present, I'm not that bad with a brush haha)

And the JLFs are in!

I will not be covering the cp with acrylic, only with a vinyl graphic. I am debating even filling the gaps left by the joystick as the stick sits nicely flush with the top. i just don't know how much my hands would hit those gaps to justify filling them in. If I do, I've got some all purpose putty though I'll have to stuff up those holes first to avoid the mechanism from getting all gummed up.

And as you can see I had to drill a recess in the back of the cp because I couldn't get the wiring harness on after I had installed them

That's it for this weekend, I'll have the cp art to post soon.

I'd fill it in. If you have a vinyl sticker over it it will bubble up and look like it's going to peel off.

You are building yourself an arcade cabinet, don't skimp otherwise you will end up regretting it.

This is looking pretty sweet!  What are the dimentions of your control panel?

Control Panel is 14.5" x 30" which is just right for me and my skinny friends haha.

And as for the amp, I bought a mini keyboard/mouse controller: http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/25/wireless-usb-keyboard-touchpad-is-more-than-the-sum-of-its-par/

With that I can control the volume via some sort of windows volume controller. At this point I am hoping to not have to touch the amp at all but that might prove difficult if I can't get the pad set right.

Second coat of paint tonight, then it's into wiring! I also got my marquee from emdkay, it's so beautiful. I highly recommend them  :notworthy:

Small update,

Cab has moved into its new home and I've started wiring. All that's left in the non electrical process is to paint and mount the front plexiglass and apply the t molding.

Coin door installed, also notice my fine wiring  :applaud:

Exterior fans installed along with the led tubes

And a poor shot of the lights in action

Getting close!

I'm really digging your "scratched" artwork. Gives it a nice faux vintage look.   :applaud:

The only thing I would change is to use that great character from the marquee as player start symbols. Put one of them to the left of the start buttons, and two on the right. I would also use 24 mm plain white buttons (Sanwa or Seimitsus) like on Japanese candy cabinets, as they are by nature very cute and will fit your nice pastel colors.

Everything is so nicely designed with your artwork, so I wouldn't risk putting a dent in that with generic HAPP men on the start buttons. :D

And as for the scratched look, i wanted to give it some texture and visual appeal while simultaneously masking the horrible playing damages that this thing is sure to take  :laugh2:

Merry Christmas all! Cabinet is almost finished, only the plexiglass over the monitor left to go. (Not to mention hours of programming  :dizzy:)

Here's a good shot of the monitor

A shot through the coin door, a usb hub for lightgun hookup on top of my mini amp. The red button on the right is the master power switch, wired to the pc for a soft shutdown which in turn shuts the whole cabinet off with a smart strip

A profile shot to show the rear leds, needs art bad!

Here's what I'm using for what little keyboard mouse access I need (hopefully it will be none once everything is configured)

Finally, a shot to show what kind of lighting the leds throw out in the room

I should have front end pics to show soon along with the plexiglass.
Take care all!

Nice amp, I just ordered the same one from ebay for $31usd shipped.  How does it sound?

It sounds great, although I have no sub right now so I cannot comment on bass output.

How do you plan on hooking up the sub?

I have the same amp and a Yamaha sub with a pair of 4ohm car speakers. It sounds really clear and with a decent sub its excellent. When I initially tested my setup I noticed the midrange a little lacking, but when the car speakers were mounted in the cab rather than just sitting on the kitchen table the midrange returned. I couldn't be happier with mine. The Yamaha sub from eBay for £12 was well worth tracking down. Without the sub it lacked 'oomph' but as part of a package this amp is perfect for an arcade machine/jukebox/whatever

The left and right speaker outputs on the amp connect to a set of input terminals on the back of the sub, then the speakers connect to a set of output terminals on the sub:

Finally finished. I've posted some videos (1 minute film restriction due to digital camera) as well as a final picture.

These first two show my custom GameEx theme, bezel and cpwizard layout

These show the makeup of the cabinet, last one has SFIV running in benchmark mode to show you how sweet it looks  :notworthy:

The only thing left is the sideart but that is going to be a loooong way down the road.

Let me know what you think!

Nice job! I like it. I got a question, what system are you running CVS2 on?

Best looking full size cab I've seen in a long time.  :applaud: I hope the sideart will be good enough. :D
