don't forget the size of an original standard pinball dmd. I think an 15" lcd is too small (width) to display an original sized dmd/scoreboard. do you have exact dimensions of it (de-cased, width/height/depth), so we can check it?

I placed the 15in behind my dmd board and it actually is wide enough with a bit to spare on each side. I have not fired up the lcd there but I'm guessing the image goes all the way to the edge of the panel de-cased. Hopefully I will de-case my 30in and get both mounted this weekend!

got my pacdrive controller (USB Output Driver Board)  ;D

I hope we can realize such things as

- 12v contactors for bumper, slingshots, replay-knocker and game specific-events (like medieval madness trolls when they pop out, when you hit/destroy the castle or the attack from mars ufo, addams familiy when the flipperfingers pushes itself to the rythm of the music....)

- led light color-changing for flipper buttons (flipperbuttons in the original color of the dedicated pincab via rgb-led and color.ini file), blinky start-, extra- or launchball-buttons...

- real flasher / strobes (e.g. for backbox, like the addams family topper)...

- we could use bass-shaker/butt-kicker/body-pumpers for emulating pinball-shaker (earthshaker, roadshow, tales from crypt...) or for game-specific-events, like the MM castle or the AFM ufo...

Guys, this would be so awesome  :D

Nice fit on the 15in below it, but does that kinda push the 30in 'backglass' up a bit higher than it was as a normal pin?
And is your 30in 16:10 like Chris', or as my Vizio states, '15:9' ?

Thank you! As for the 30" being higher up, I don't have any real "pins" to compare to (except for pics). I think it came out centered. We also had to remove the wood strips for installation.

don't forget the size of an original standard pinball dmd. I think an 15" lcd is too small (width) to display an original sized dmd/scoreboard. do you have exact dimensions of it (de-cased, width/height/depth), so we can check it?

Chris, I measured the screen several times before I made the purchase. It is plenty wide enough. :) I'll take exact measurements and post them.

BTW, I just made a small website with photos from my project. So far I have ~200 pics. Hopefully they maybe helpful to others.

EDIT:

The dimensions of the 15" Dynex DX-15L150A11 LCD TV de-cased are 14 7/16" x 8 1/2" (367mm x 216mm).

ledwiz arrived and works like a champ!

brainstormed the previous days with ext2k (thx roger!)... here are some new ideas, hope everything will work.

- 3 rgb-led flasher (left, center, right) to emulate every color and viewing angle
- 2 coldwhite U-strobes / stroboscope (e.g. for afm strobe multiball)
- some more siemens contactors :D

Have you figured out how to get VP to interact with the LEDWIZ yet? I'll guess it shouldn't be that hard to edit the scripts... or maybe it is.

But I can't wait to see the end result. How nice wouldn't it be to have flashing start and extra ball buttons etc when you add credits and so on.
A replay knocker would also add that extra touch...

I will definitely follow this thread. Good work so far by the way.

Hi,

I would like to congratulate you on a simply outstanding project! This is very impressive! As an owner of several real pinball machines and an arcade emulation hobbyist, I can totally see myself attempting something like this eventually. You are an inspiration!  :applaud:

I wonder it the pinball tables are made in 3D or in 2D. With soon comin 3D-TVs the playfield would look like the real thing. =) Only problem that you have to wear 3D-glases to see it =/

I would just like to mention that it shouldn't be too long and you can upgrade your machine to use a new 3D screen-without-glasses technology for the ultimate virtual pinball experience: Toshiba to Launch No-Glasses 3D TV.

Just imagine a playfield with glasses-free 3D like that and some kind of head-tracking (maybe camera-based like the new M$ Kinect stuff) where the 3D image adjusts in real-time to your actual head position. The future is looking bright for virtual pinball! :)

Regards,
 Ken

here are 2 preview vids of ATTACK FROM MARS. ledwiz outputs are not optimized yet, just a first test.

==> during gameplay ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElS7v5Kq2zc )
3 rgbw topper flasher, 8 force feedback solenoids/contactors for flippers, slingshots, bumpers and special effects, 1 pinball shaker, 1 original replay knocker, rgb button leds for the right button color... the 3 topper lights are mainly for pinball flasher. every pinball has flasher, so you can emulate each color and viewing angle. they are so bright that it reflect to the playfield glass and to the whole room. amazing effect.

you have to see this in real.

==> inside pinmame menu to test the ledwiz outputs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvIQfjlEkfU )

there are many possibilites to optimize the ledwiz output or to generate awesome custom output. you have to look in the pinball manuals for solenoid, lamp and switch matrix.

It is really time consuming, but when it's done - it's mind blowing :D

When the software is released, we should open an "ledwiz output" thread to share our configs.

I haven't commented in this thread, which is stupid.  (Not the thread!  My not commenting in it.)  This thread is just ... awe-inspiring.  It's amazing.  I have no words.  Really.

and this is exactly was i was about to post now...  :applaud:

Man that looks like hard work.  But I've never seen a pinball manual in person before so it's all relatively new.  But either way I hope you find the time to post a vid of Indy when you are finished with the flashers/etc.  This build has made me want to build a pincab of my own but the wife has allready said no to the extra tv's.  Or at least until we get caught up on bills and things.

Keep it up.

This development is probably the most important evolution to virtual pinball since the release of Visual Pinball :)
Keep up the good work guys.
This just what I was waiting for to start building my own cab.
Building, collecting and playing arcade machines :)

"Hey Chuckie, you're up!"

I am so glad that rudy works :D

- contactors for everything that makes "klack" (flippers, bumpers, slingshots, outholes, trapdoor, ramp diverter, ball release, kicker and so on)

- less noisy contactor (back/middle, mounted on the wooden lcd support) for rudy's eyes and eyelids! that is so cool  :afro:

- when you hit rudy ("Owww!!!! that was no accident!"  :dizzy:) or rudys hideout, shaker gets activated!

- flasher works also nice on funhouse

all these toys adds so much fun to gameplay! I think this was the missing part of visual pinball.
thanks again to manofwar  :applaud:

cheers
